Is there any point ?
In the last 2 weeks I've had 3 attempted burglaries . We live in a nice house , nice area , couple of nice cars outside , no garage so cars in full view , I'm guessing they want the keys to a 340i touring as it's always parked handy to pull out easily.
First attempt was probably a recon , jumped over the gates for a look around the back of the house , wife woke up , I went downstairs and put the lights on and they've gone . I put it down to opportunists and left it at that , no big deal , we live in a town centre in a detached cottage and in honesty I've been waiting for it since we moved here over twelve years ago .
Next attempt was when the wife pulled up and noticed something wrong with one of the front windows , bearing in mind we live on a side street but with a through road that is used regularly and parked on too . Someone had removed the beading from the double glazing to pull out the window unit , I know its old fashioned and they're also in need of replacing but you know how it is as I've been promising to replace the windows for ages . I reported this to the police and they sent someone out the next day for fingerprints then the day after to take a report .
Now I'm realising I need to improve security so I order a cctv system , it's delivered at 3pm and by 6pm I've got 2 cameras up and running but I've run out of daytime light .
8 hours later I wake up hearing something , turn the tv on and there's some dhead having another go at taking the window out ! I jump up , run down the stairs and straight outside but they've heard me coming and they've gone . I also realise how possibly stupid I've been as I've left the door open and my wife's inside and I'm alone , heat of the moment thing !
But here's the point , wife phones 999 , reports a burglary in progress and it's been recorded on cctv . The answer was " if we have anyone available we'll send them round , if not someone we'll call tomorrow "
18 hours later a wpc with a community support officer come round ! I asked " are you here for the burglar " when they replied yes I told them " your a bit late , he left ages ago "
They then lecture me on having nice cars in full view , living where I do and confronting the thieving tt . They never even asked to view the cctv recording !
No wonder the thieving fkers dare try to break in an obviously occupied house , they're 99% certain the cops won't bother coming out , probably to busy looking for drivers speeding or on telephones .

Fortunately I've lived in the real world all my life and after having a builders yard for many years I'm no stranger to thieves . It's just a pity the police appear to be completely incompetent , especially when it's an occupied house . I'll probably not bother reporting the next attempt, I'm expecting one as the thieving tts have put a bit to much effort in to get nothing !

I expected someone to at least call in within an hour just to ask for a look at the recording so if they pull anyone in they could Id him the same night .
I'm posting this form the sofa as I'm on ' nightshift ' in my own home !

Rough idea where on the Wirral? Seems quite common at the moment around Wallasey Village.

Generally a nice area and plenty of nice cars knocking around, I’ve got CCTV in very obvious places after a Ring doorbell opened my eyes to how often people try our car doors.

Neighbours have had some nice cars taken off their drives recently on our road.
It's heswall and it's a ch postcode , apparently there's been a few people reporting scrotes in the area on cctv recently.
I'm hoping I've done enough to deter them , but the sad reality is if I have they'll just move on to someone else . At least it's a great street where I live and I've agreed with a few of the neighbours that we'll all leave our phones on overnight so at least if there's anymore trouble we know we hopefully won't be alone if we confront the scum . We aren't lawless vigilantes but it's good to know we'll help each other . Especially seeing as 1 of the guys wife is often alone as his work takes him away overnight.
I'm lucky to live on a good street .

I don’t know whether things are getting worse or social media means the smallest thing is reported followed by 300 replies of ‘omg hun u ok wot a load of feral scum I blame da pairants’.

I’ve had a guy with what was presumably an empty pizza box peering through my front door at 3am on a Sunday morning before staring at the camera and quickly moving on. Same night a neighbour had a Golf R and a 430 stolen off their driveway.

Guess what happened when I told the police and offered to send them the video?

“We’ll be in touch” followed by nothing.

The one time I think I managed to press the unlock button on my car whilst carrying a load of stuff inside, someone ransacked it. This was Dawstone Road. I have no doubt these people walk round the streets most nights trying car doors.

They never appear to get caught.
I think you rang the same cops I did ! Sounds like you live nearby , wife used to walk the dog along there .
I've obviously been targeted , I'm guessing it's the BMW as it's parked for easy exit and the other ones a 43amg that's not much use apart from joyriding and the BMW blocks it in . Can't imagine the scrotes will be moving cars around in order to take one so I'd now qualify for the bad parking thread outside my house !

I wonder what lengths you are legally allowed to go to now to protect your property ? They are very likely to come around again for another go so can you legitimately tool yourself up in expectation ? Then again how tooled up are they likely to be ? Many Airsoft weapons look identical to the real thing, you would hope that all but the most determined car thieves would think twice if they came up against a home owner brandashing a couple of these. Golf clubs are quite good too, keeps those pesky knives at arms length.
I know it’s really tempting to want to protect your property, but please, please, PLEASE try and avoid someone armed with a knife. It’s a weapon that requires very little skill to cause a fatal injury. I’d much rather investigate a string of burglaries than a single murder.

Stuff is just stuff and can be replaced. It’s irritating, you’ll feel violated and you’ll no doubt lose out financially. You won’t be dead though.
This is one of the most sensible things someone has posted for a long time .
I'll admit that when I tried to confront them the first thing I did was delete part of the recording that featured me as the star , I didn't go out empty handed and I hope the would be burgalers saw this . However , as I said in my original post , once outside in the street reality set in , wife in the house alone and door wide open , me outside armed like a knuckle dragging moron realising that there could be half a dozen of them outside and it could have been the plan all along !
I grew up with wronguns , and burglary was part and parcel of owning a builders yard so I know the way the world works .
Best plan is make the place as secure as possible and a pain in the arse to rob so they go elsewhere, sorry everyone else !

This sounds like a massive pain in the behind op. Maybe now is the time to upgrade the security; get new windows, fit and lock a gate, fit a flood light etc.
Barrrring cctv and new Windows I'd already done everything, I've now done it all , including inconveniencing myself by parking both cars blocking each other in , however , as I said to my neighbour , it shouldn't be up to scrotes to dictate how I live my life , where I choose to live or what I choose to buy or drive .
As far as I'm concerned this lot already owe me a couple of days labour and a few hundred quid !
Cctv is in and that's what I caught the fker on , bold as brass half one in the morning trying to drag the glazing unit out of the frame . I ran downstairs with my equaliser stick and straight outside , I'd expected them back so had trainers and top ready , their lookout obviously saw the lights come on and they were gone . If they come back they'll maybe get a suprise as to how much people don't like thieves !

Oh forgot to say, my family dog provides excellent round the clock notice of anyone intruding on the property, it's a great deterrent as no thief is going to be happy to proceed with a dog going mental barking, shortly to be followed someone coming to investigate.
I've got a dog , unfortunately it's 16 years old , stone deaf and going blind ! A few years ago it would have given its life for us , the night of the attempted burglary when I saw the thief at the window on cctv and gave chase , the wife went into the room the dog sleeps in that was also the room the thief tried to gain access to the house to ring the cops and the dog never stirred once .
Hey , we all get old !
The weathers st on the Wirral tonight , noisy wind , rain and hailstones , it's a good night for a robbery .
I'll report in later as part of night shift , I've got the equaliser handy !
It's a poor state of affairs when this behaviour becomes necessary

To drag things back to the OP - are you back on the night shift tonight?
I thought you lot had forgotten about me !
I'll probably on night shift again , the weather forecast isn't great and historically it's when the the thieving gits come out . I've just got a feeling that they've put to much effort and took to many risks to leave empty handed .
I'm making it as difficult as possible for them .

So do more robberies happen in bad weather then? I didn’t know that. Hopefully they will have had enough of your house and will now go away.
More crime in bad weather as the rain washes evidence away such as finger and footprints and the wind masks the noise they make. Less chance of being seen by a passer by as less people around as they stay in .
Criminals aren't that stupid in some ways !

Back on night shift again ! Wife was away overnight last night so only one car on the drive , I'm just settling down to enjoy a good nights sleep on whichever side of the bed I want to and I hear the cctv recorder spark up , it's just a car parking outside I think but then I hear a dull thud !
I flick the tv on and there's the arrogant tracksuit wearing fker swaggering around the back of my house looking in the outbuildings , I jumped up and tried to keep an eye on the tv whilst trying to pull some clothes on . Straight downstairs as I watched him jump back over the gates and guessed he's going back to the window on the front , I didn't put the lights on this time and I opened the dining room door and there he is trying the window again , I popped up at the window with a baseball bat in hand and he's off like usain bolt down the street !
I'm guessing he thought the house was empty but the absolute arrogance of him had to be seen to be believed , definitely not in any hurry and very comfortable in his work .
Called the cops who came round , had a quick look at the footage and announced there hadn't been a crime committed so couldn't do anything even if they tugged him , they also told me I shouldn't have a baseball bat and advised me to get a door bell that records anyone in front of it , after watching the fker on 5 cameras checking out the car , jump the gates , take a look in the outbuildings, jump back over the gates and run down the road . I think he had a guy watching with a car down the road but it's just to far away to Id it .
It's an eye opener to watch these people at work and a huge reality check that regardless what you've done , this st is still willing to have a go ! Cameras were no deterrent last night , easily got around with a scarf and hat .

I told him as I hadn't hit anyone with it no crime had been committed , he'd set the precedence . To be fair he didn't make a big deal of it , and he only saw it on his second visit as I'd hidden it on the first one , he caught me off guard by coming back round to take another look at the recording.

Shame you didn’t get to smash him up op! This kind of thing make me angry - it’s your house damnit!

Might be worth changing your choice of implement now plod have seen it? Ideally to something a house holder might have around for other reasons - maybe a spade?

Did your security light come on (if you have one) and did it have any effect?
The lights did indeed come on , he actually waited just out of view of the camera until it timed out . Nothing was stopping him apart from direct confrontation, there's not a lot you can do if they want to be in .

I read that as that he tries to open a window? Which would make it an attempt burglary. Before that act mooching around your yard could fit the definition of being found on an enclosed premises for an unlawful purpose.
I did actually ask the cops after the 4th attempt to break in , that time through the window , and the way they explained it was if you catch someone actually in your house and your confident enough to have a go they'd class it as defending yourself , family , property . It's not a green light to tie someone up and torture them gangster style though , reasonable force I'd imagine it would be called ?
Chasing someone down the street and giving him a kicking or beating with a weapon when they've not actually gained access to your house is probably assault of some description on your behalf and there lies the problem . If I , or anyone else , wants to dish out a beating you'll have to do it inside your house , after they've physically broken in .
I'm no warrior but I don't have a problem defending my house , but to be honest I'd rather just scare them off than go hand to hand . Not only is there a risk of injury or even prison time for doing it , you've no real idea who your dishing a kicking to and if it's the wrong person from the wrong family it's likely there'll be a few of them on your doorstep next time .
I'm no law expert , obviously , but I think I got the general point. Hopefully after chasing them 3 times , twice actually seeing them and them seeing me , they'll class me as to much hard work . If they're after my cannondale mountain bike they'll be sorely disappointed when they realise it's almost twenty years old . Maybe they want car keys though , that means entering the house . Let's just hope I've put them off .

Can you paint some of this on top of the gate/walls, if anything will annoy him and rewin his tracksuit

Already done that and it definitely spoilt his flash trainers and Nike joggers , he's that close on the cctv ! I've just spent a couple of hours this afternoon with the pressure washer cleaning his footprints off the paving . I've also put gripper rods on the rear side of their access points but they wear black builders gloves , I watched the fker put them on as he was checking out the car . They've tried to get in when I'm obviously in the house so not even that puts them off .
I've done everything I can so I'm guessing it's personal now as I've chased them 3 times now and discovered the other two attempts ,it's maybe a challenge to them .
Caught him on 5 of 6 cameras but as he thought there's no one at home he's just swaggering around , it should be disturbing but im getting used to it , if they are taking it personally so am I . The wife's not great about it and a couple of of the other girls that live in the street whose husbands work away aren't happy .
Night shift again for a couple of days at least , I'm now like a scout , prepared to say the least !!

Well back on topic , I've been mooching around the house today doing a little cleaning and sorting and the 54 plate black diesel golf with 2 scrotes in has been up and down the street a couple of times , it's got a pathetic noisy dump valve on that they revved up as almost a threat to me or trying to take the piss .
Cars are parked badly needing both moving to get either out but to be honest I'm sick of trying to put them off , I'm now more interested in catching them now , the cops can't do much , they even admitted there's only a few cop cars available at any given time in the area that is fairly large , night watch beckons !
