Out on bail during your murder trial - normal?

18 y/o mother of one who does not deny she stabbed the guy in the heart - she forgot she had a knife with her and that It was in her hand when she went to punch him

Left the scene and the victim to die - then handed herself and the cleaned knife in a few hours later

Seems strange she is out on bail during the trial - is that usual?

I would be interested to know how common it is - I assumed (wrongly) that with a murder charge you got free accomm pending the trial
