Morning all, looking for some advice regarding speed cameras, specifically the calibration.

My mother has received 3 fines in a week, 30 zone, flashed ranging from 41-48. Now I know everyone says no way, I'm innocent etc, but my mother is 62, district nurse (drives like miss daisy) and the camera is about 100yds from her home, been there for ever, never been flashed before.

The curious part of all this is that a local group has been set up on faceache, it's currently got 95 people done in a week, many have been flashed 5-7 times. One guy has gps proof from his works van showing 27mph, he got a ticket for 44! The calibration for the camera however shows it's been done in kmh, is this right/normal? Ties in with the speeds people say they were doing vs what their ticket says, multiple replies from the force saying it's correct, but it can't be right, can it?

Have they sent any photos with the NIPs, ideally a pair taken at a known time interval ?
I'm not sure, she said she just had 3 letters. I've asked her to send me a pic of the ticket she has.

Interesting, 44 km/h is 27 mph, perhaps someone doing something daft like setting a km/h camera to 30 km/h instead of 50 km/h or whatever... Is it one with the lines painted on the road? That should help if it's genuine - if she was doing 48mph it would look very different to 48km/h (longer distance travelled between the 2 pictures)

I see it was calibrated on the 15th may, presumably all of the people on this group only started getting flashed after that date?

It was replaced a while back, from the grey box style ones to one of those new yellow cameras (sorry I don't know what camera that is) mounted high up, the lines in the road were removed and replaced with little dots.

Correct, only since the end of May were people reporting problems, though with lockdown presumably there wasn't a lot of people driving about, they seem to have exploded since the middle of June.

@agtlaw - in your experience is it normal for calibration to be done in kmh? Looking on the gosafe.org site every one I can see is in mph except this one

Perhaps worth a call to the local rag - speeding is always a hot topic, as is the police doing something wrong - and it might also bring some more people out of the woodwork with other good, evidence-able, examples of it not being right.
The local paper is meeting with some of the group on Tuesday.

From the group chat the only people that have been sent pictures have all been from the front....

I can’t see the top of page one.

Vector SR Speed Enforcement Device?
I believe so, I only have that screenshot at present.

Some more info, everyone's ticket shows in mph, trackers and black box screenshots have also been posted in the group, some are direct mph>kph (27mph - 44kph, 23mph - 37kph but showing in mph on the ticket) but some have just had 20mph added. Someone's posted their black box details showing the location and 23mph, their ticket says 43, someone else 28mph, ticket says 48mph. Not everyone has been sent a photo, those who do have a photo are all front facing. The location on some of the tickets is incorrect (the location of a different camera at the other end of the road)

ETA - just been to my mums, both tickets were for the same speed at the same time of day, one Monday the other tuesday. No photo was enclosed neither did she request one, she sent it back denying speeding. The only paperwork she has left is in welsh.
On the group chat she is on, 106 people have received fines, almost everyone a minimum of 2, quite a lot are nearly into double figures. Those who received a pic, they're all front facing, not one from the rear.

What sampling rate are those black box recorders operating at?

If it's more than once a second you're not necessarily going to see the speed the car was doing at the exact place the speed camera took it's photos.
I honestly don't know, I'm only going off others screenshots.
Being extra picky my mums ticket says under the time of the offence "20:06 AM"

Has anyone validated they are even genuine tickets? there have been scams around this in the past.
South Wales police have confirmed the tickets are correct, well, as far as being issued that is
