Thought it would be interesting to get a real world idea of figures relating to 'random' traffic stops.

This is to cover your entire driving life.

if we split BAME and NON BAME incidents then, imo, we can see just how disproportionate it might be.

where i have put 'for good reason' i would expect you to be honest, like; you're in a modified car, you have dodgy number plates, you were driving like a cock, you're young and have a nice car etc - like it or not these are factors that would increase your chances of being tugged.

i would have liked to gather more metrics such as age and if the stop was pleasant etc but the poll won't allow me to do funky things.

Hope no one takes offence to this, with so much fake news around i thought it would give a good indication as to what is actually happening out there.

thank you.

I think you have just very graphically emphasized the phase 'Lies, Dam Lies and stastics'

Without knowing how long the person has been driving the poll is completely meaningless.

Which is better (or worse)? Someone who has been pulled over 2 times or someone who's been pulled over 20 times?
What if the person who's been pulled over twice has only been driving for 2 weeks - therefore an average stop of once a week.
What if the person who's been pulled over 20 times has been driving 60 years - therefore an average stop of once every 3 years.

I'm sorry but what ever you're trying to prove won't be done this way.
with the limited tech we have here this is the best i can do, sorry.

did you vote?

as terminator x pointed out - it doesn't seem like the PH demographic is very diverse lol.

Thank you for everyone who has voted so far.

Interesting insight into the PH demographic I'd say, judging by the range of responses...
absolutely - rough calculation suggests 95% of the responders to this poll are non-bame.

4% of 380 odd responders are BAME.

wow.. i've always thought pistonheads was quite diverse, peoples opinions certainly are.

Petrolheads in the UK are mostly white dudes ? (please leave the tired powerfully built/red bull bullst retorts at the door..)

I stick to speed limits, I notice when there is a plain police car - and obviously when it is marked - and slow a bit more. I think that's what gets me stopped.
wow, all you need to do now is drive with the windows open, have a darkened number plate and loud exhaust and you'd have a full set lol

Well these poll results are categorical. Couldn’t be more clear cut. Proves the point perfectly. Turns out the vast majority on here are white.
Well, responders to this poll at least - 4% out of 400 odd replies

i don't think i actually commented on me being pulled over.

4 times in 20+ years of driving. 4 were justified and 3 were no bother at all.

One incident when i was pulled up in Chelmsford was fairly odd - i understand why they pulled me, i was in a newly leased S3(mine) and i had been driving up and down the same stretch of road a few times (i was trying to get into a petrol station but the queue was out onto the road and it was single lane, i didn't fancy it but i could see it moving quite quickly so i thought i'd circle a few times until i could get on the forecourt)

They said my behaviour matched what drug runners do, which is fair enough. He then went on to tell me, "because i have a hire car that looks more dodgy" - i explained that it was a lease car, which is a little different, i'm not renting it for the day, i have it for two years, my details are on file and registered to the plate etc. He didn't agree.

they called for backup (i was on my own..) and in the end i had one unmarked focus st (the one that pulled me to start off with) 2 marked patrol cars and a van. They spent 25 minutes (taking turns) to go through the car, i asked at one point if they could close the drivers door while they were searching other parts as it was pouring with rain and my door card was getting soaking wet, i tried not to be argumentative but i get it probably sounded that way.

they just didn't get that i was 'out for a drive' - surprising how many people don't understand. it was a miserable wet sunday evening, the other half was at home watching some Celebrity dancing on x factor stars crap on the tv and i fancied some fresh air.

in the end the original officer came right up to my face and said, "i don't believe you were just out for a drive, i think you are selling drugs and have been lucky that you sold your last lot before we pulled you"

he did seem disappointed he couldn't find anything. They didn't give me any paperwork (i thought they had to for the search?) and let me get on my way. I spent 30 minutes when i got back home hair drying the drivers door card :/

Looks like the biggest problem PistonHeads has is the lack of BAME contributors
the biggest problem? yeh.. it must be. i doubt anything is more pressing than the requirement for diversity.

thank god they don't have to worry about keeping the servers running, preventing them from being compromised, keeping advertisers on board, keeping the current user base interested with new and relevant content, collecting revenue, laying staff off, having most of their workforce remotely working etc etc.
