Hi everyone,

Yesterday a gang of three do-gooders in high vis vests were using a small camera to film drivers in and out of their village. I had just come off a national speed section but was still drifting in at around 40mph. I did give them a few revs as I passed, hearing one of the blokes cry out, 'forty'. Presumably that is to add commentary to their taped footage. Of course I flipped them the bird as I passed.

I'm now wondering what they do with their 'evidence', and if I can expect to get any points because of it. Reading a few sources online suggests their evidence is basically worth nothing as it cannot be held to the standards required in court, if it were ever to proceed there.

There's still the nagging worry though as if I acquire 3 points, I will be banned.

Thanks for any helpful info on the subject.

Here we go with the internet judge, judy, and executioners!

Holding out for someone with a similar experience of this to post. Cheers.

The reason I revealed a little extra, freely, of my situation was actually largely to goad some of the SP&L warriors out into the open. So I suppose my original post had two purposes - one - to get information on my incident, and - two - to amuse myself, witnessing some of the keyboard rage!

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to read the naughty boy letter carefully.

I can't screw up my road to redemption with these points. They've nearly expired, and I'd probably cry to get a totting up ban at this stage. Which would delight some on here, I'm dead sure. smile

So you’re just trolling.

Grow up.
What a strange comment.

Take note that your response didn't answer the OP's original question - so what are you even doing here? Fortunately, there's still good advice to be asked for in this section of the PH forums, and to those, I'm thankful.

I like the idea of driving over the camera to destroy the evidence! Would need a heavier vehicle though.

It is a good point about cooling it down re. Speed, in a general sense. I don't know how many points you guys have but I do give in to a certain recklessness when I get into the spirit of a good drive, or a ride on the bikes. Now those I really need to be careful with - speed limits are broken constantly even when trying not to!

I am riding my luck out, and what happens will happen. But I can't stop the temptation to keep using my transport purely for fun.

I can't stand the hi-viz OAP brigade, but my previous house was adjacent to a 30mph village main road & some of the speeding/anti-social driving/riding was unacceptable. I'm not sure what wound me up more, tts in Corsas with drainpipe exhausts revving the nuts off them at silly-o' clock, or others probably doubling the speed limit. As for 'giving the bird' - what exactly does that achieve??
Traffic calming, community speedwatch & probably other methods have been tried; I have no idea whether it makes a jot of difference to the regular suspects, but surely a bit of consideration to local residents wouldn't hurt?
This is the thing - I do respect local residents, and for probably 95% of the time do make effort to stick to the limits. But when I see the OAP brigade there carrying out hostile reconnaissance, I do make sure they know I've also seen them, and make clear my views on their actions. They cannot expect anything less, from the moment they donned the high-viz and picked up the clipboard & camera.

Nobody likes a badly modified exhaust, but the music from a sport system or bike engine with a titanium exhaust is, sonically, a wonderful thing! Some may disagree but when the time is right, I do let the car/bike sing. Usually NOT when in 30's except for this particular instance.

I'll grovel, beg, and plead to the magistrate to avoid the dire consequences if I have to. I'm glad this discussion has stimulated the forum; it seems there's an even divide between drivers who agree that these speed catching heroes in the village are the suckers and those that think I'm of a low IQ, youth, silly, etc.

To be honest I mainly regret what a few of you pointed out - their actions, over time and with enough annoying of their local MP or other senior officials, might cause speed bumps to be installed. I regret my part in that if it does happen, as we need less crack downs and more open mindedness in society, generally.

Take care out there PHers and don't get busted! I'm off for an hour of sunset driving, I'll, err, try to be a decent motorist and stick to those pesky limits.

Try, being the key word. smile

The really funny bit is where the OP ‘gives it a few revs’ as he passes as if he was 17 again (although by his posting style he could well be) and passing a crowd of teenage girls.

I hate to break it to the OP don’t think Doris and Mavis will moisten their nickers at the sound of a fruity exhaust.
I'm glad my commentating amused you in this way, that was the intention - it's a way of letting the do-gooders know that I've clocked them. We're just different tribes I suppose.

I could attack them with my keyboard, but to be honest, I'd like YOU guys to give me suggestions how to deal with them again, if I come across them in future.

That youtube clip IS pure gold... To other petrolheads, you just know they are reacting like these guys. Of course, not everyone lives a joyful life travelling at speed in fast vehicles and they'll never understand. But that is their problem, if they want to live miserably.

To the guy asking about speed - I don't really care for imposed limits, I will adjust my driving or riding speed appropriately to the terrain, road surface, and weather conditions etc. I trust myself more to do this than the ability of a sign to instruct me how to get around.

It wouldn't bother me if I had people going past at speed or loudly. I use my senses to avoid people speeding in urban areas or anywhere for that matter. There's a young guy who goes past my house a couple of times a day on a straight piped chopper of some kind, am probably one of the few around here who don't mind the ridiculous noise, because it comes and goes pretty fast!

Ultimately - and a lot of people who have replied here could benefit from this - just chill out, let the small things go! Life is much more enjoyable this way.

The final sentence is good advice and very much pertinent, despite my antics with the speedwatch group!

I live in a cul-de-sac, limit is 20... But as long as someone is going past faster and NOT running over the cats that live here, I really don't mind. It just doesn't upset me at all.
