How long before I can show you my crash video?
Discussion
I caught some lunatic driving and (minor) collision on my dashcam in Peterborough two weeks ago. Uploaded to the Cambridgeshire dashcam police portal, written proper report with all the details 10 days ago. Receipt acknowledged but no reply.
I'm not supposed to upload to social media having reported it as a crime, but presumably there comes a point where the police have effectively said not interested and I can show PH the juicy video?

I don't think there's anything to stop you (the mods may have specific rules on this site), but don't be upset if it impacts the case against the driver if you're wanting some sort of 'justice'.
Not going to affect me in anyway, both drivers were idiots and I only go through Peterborough as a last resort. Biggus thingus said:

Why even bother showing it?I'm not supposed to upload to social media having reported it as a crime, but presumably there comes a point where the police have effectively said not interested and I can show PH the juicy video?
Is there a prize on offer or are you after lots of internet pats on back?
That's why you've posted ITT.
That's quite a deep point I know.

10 days is not really that long in the grand scheme of things. The guy might just be receiving his first NIP at this point.
I guess it depends on whether you want transient internet cred or something reverberating to actually happen to the driver.
As I say, transient internet cred is my raison d'etre.I guess it depends on whether you want transient internet cred or something reverberating to actually happen to the driver.

I'm sure they are full speed ahead investigating. I have no doubt, nose to the grindstone, when they're not eating donuts in front of Netflix.
Rereading my original post, I wasn't quite clear, apologies -
When you make the incident report, you don't actually upload the footage until the police ask for it. (At least on the Cambridgeshire Police part of the dashcam upoad portal).
So...
I've reported an accident, damage occured to two vehicles.
The police still haven't asked for the footage or allowed me to upload it ten days later.
To be serious, someone is probably trying to make an insurance claim at least.

Did you stop to provide your details to the two drivers? Their insurance claim will just continue parallel to the police side of things and it's much more important that they have an independent witness with video footage to help their claim than any police involvement. When you make the incident report, you don't actually upload the footage until the police ask for it. (At least on the Cambridgeshire Police part of the dashcam upoad portal).

In terms of the police side of things, it's just what you've been told. You can either post it up and potentially jeopardise a case or hold fire and give it to the police and they may be able to prosecute.
On the broader point, legally I think it's almost certainly nonsense that posting a realtime video of an incident could ever jeopardise a case. How could it?
I've still heard nothing so I chased the police today. They say neither of the drivers has reported it therefore they're not doing anything.
I explained (again) that the driver who was hit was on fake plates so he wasn't going to report it. Total disinterest from the police. Oh well I told them, hope these idiots don't kill anyone in the meantime.

I'm a stickler for the rules.

It's just a still image, not clickable.. damn tease
First time I clicked it worked, just tried again and it doesn't. I think I must have worn it out.Anyway after all the build up it shows a few seconds of a Passat undertaking the white van and just clipping the nearside front as it cuts back in front again.
Not exactly a crash as hinted by the thread title.
Almost "nothing to see" here territory.

No one cares about your dashcam video. HTH.I'm not supposed to upload to social media having reported it as a crime, but presumably there comes a point where the police have effectively said not interested and I can show PH the juicy video?
Notable absence of any of their own exciting footage posted by the critics ITT.

Why on earth have posters come here who have admitted they are uninterested in a dash cam video, only to then give the op abuse? very odd indeed
