It seems that we have somewhat of a problem brewing with our "neighbours".

We have 4 cars at my parents house and two regular visitors (my girlfriend and my sister's boyfriend). In order to fit all the cars in recently I have been parking my old Golf over the road, next to the kerb by a T junction. There are the sides of two corner houses facing it, each with long six foot high fences eitherside, so it's not really visible to anyone from the ground floor of their homes.

Now the owners of the corner house have started to object and came round my parents house and said "we don't want to fall out with you but park your car outside someone else's house, not ours". Now this house has a dropped kerb entrance on one side into a driveway and a concreted front garden which can accommodate 2 cars, both of which they don't want to use.

Fast forward to today and my sisters boyfriend parked his car there in a space big enough to fit 3 cars, they have purposely parked both their cars bumper to bumper next to his, blocking him in. That is going to prove very interesting come the morning when he needs to go to work.

Should they fail to move them, what is the best course of action, is it a matter the police will deal with?

They won't use either of their drives! There aren't any carparks nearbye. I used to park it outside an old boy's bungalow 2 doors up who was fine with it, or in his drive to keep it out of the way. The simple fact is I need to park it either on the road or on a verge somewhere and they don't like any cars being parked there.

I'm not sure what you mean about taking one to a carpark? There's not a public carpark within 3 miles of my house. My VX220 is in the garage for most of the year, my Dad's car is on the drive and used every day, as is my sister's car.

Here's how it is at the moment, my sister's boyfriend parked in the middle between their two cars. When he parked there just the mondeo was there and he left ample space from it. Since then they've moved both cars to inch up close to it.

On the one hand, people getting petty and thinking they own the parking on the highway annoy me. On the other, when we only had room to park two cars, we limited ourselves to that. Six cars for one house is taking the piss a bit if you can't park them on your own premises.
It's only one car that isn't parked on the premises (my Golf), the others are visitors, which are very rarely here for more than half a day. I'll be making my trolley jack available tomorrow should he need to move one of the cars. Tomorrow for instance if they are still being as petty and won't unblock him I'll just have to leave the Golf outside the front of their house.

They've been asked to move one of the cars but they have refused, so we're going to call the police now.

Just be careful that you don't get into a formal dispute... has to be declared when selling a house...
My parents have no intention of selling so that's no problem. The police are going to send someone round but can't say when, initially they said it wasn't anything to do with them but seem to have changed their mind.

As you can see there, it's pretty much the least unsightly place to leave a car within several hundred yards.

Can you park across the front of your drive or is that already taken by a car as well? Might help if you "use up" that space as well?
Not really, without blocking either the footpath or our neighbours driveway.

Which ones complaining, the house on the same side the cars are parked or opposite?

To be fair, in the second Google link, the parked cars appear to be slightly hindering access to both corner houses drives. It looks like the road is quite narrow and to be able to swing in/out they may have to do it from one way only.

Although what they've done is out of order, they may have a point from a neighbours point of view. Whilst you are making things better for you and your immediate neighbours this could be causing the corner houses grief. Where the cars are parked appears to be the closest on road parking for that house as the front is grass and too close to the corner for on road parking.
The Google link shows the 2 cars belonging to the corner house parked there, so they would be blocking their own driveway. As it happens, neither of those driveways are used, the gates are just kept locked. Since those images were taken the corner house has had their entire front garden concreted, with room for 2 cars but they are simply choosing not to use it, they want to park on the road instead.

As far as I'm concerned if their cars are parked there, that's fine, no problem, I'll park somewhere else. What I put up with is them saying they are "reserving" bits of the public road for their own use. To then deliberately block someone in and refuse to move it is just taking the biscuit.

They had parked on their drive but decided to stop and park there just to be awkward. If they were to park in front of their gate which they don't use you could fit 4 cars there, plus another 2 in their front drive with a further two in their back drive/garage. There's space for 8 cars there, plus another 2 on the grass under the tree so it's not as if they are short of parking there!

It's all very well saying it's not neighbourly parking there but if I can't then I have to park outside someone else's house.

Out of interest at what point do you measure the junction? The centre of the road? Where the road starts to curve?

You can see here where the Fiesta has been driven forward onto fresh snow, just to butt right up against it.

The fiesta has just been moved, they didn't answer the door to the police.

But I reckon the op said the silver car and the fiesta both belong to the house the drive services.
Correct. I don't even think the silver car is blocking their drive (that they don't use), the photo just makes it look like that.

What are the options? Never park on that road because someone who lives there has told you not to? Leave the Clio there forever because they refuse to release it? I think getting the Police to have a word was the most sensible way of dealing with it.

My neighbour has around 5 cars and for the last year have been having building work done so no driveway parking. On many an occasion I have had to struggle to get out of my own drive due to inconsiderate parking so I do know a little how it feels sometimes having 5/6/7 vehicles seemingly penning you in. This does seem different from your situation though.

But - I have always gone and spoken to them and just asked them to show consideration and they have (on the whole) obliged. Escalation like this helps no one.
We did, we asked them 3 times, they said yes then changed their mind and just refused to move it.

No, I mean have they ever come and spoken to you/your family to try to explain what the beef is?
Yes, they just came round and said don't park there because they won't park on their own drive because it's too slippery (even when dry), that they've made the entrance too small so they can't park both cars on there (so won't park any) and that they may have visitors at some point.

They'd be mad to try and park that close to my Golf anyway. If I put a tenner of diesel in it the value of it doubles!

So OP, have the nimbys won? Will you and your family now not park there or will you continue to use the public road to park legally?
The bloke this morning got up to de ice the Mondeo just so that when my sister's boyfriend moved his car he could move it forward a couple of yards to close the space!

I think tonight could call for some creative parking! Any BiB care to advise whether I could lawfully park on the road on the large verge on the corner without obscuring the view of the junction? I would have thought that would be no problem as you get a pretty good view of the junction regardless.
