Bit of info chaps, if you don't mind...

Picked up my C6 Z06 today. Stonking motor, and a cracking 100 mile drive home, loved every minute. Just one (dim) shadow on the horizon. When I called my insurance broker to transfer my policy from the Camaro to the Vette, I was told I'll need a Thatcham Cat 1 immobiliser.

Aside from the fact that I don't particularly like aftermarket alarms, I can't see how one would interface with the keyless ignition system on the C6. So, what has everyone else got (if anything), and can anyone recommend a system? I had a Toad on the Camaro, and it was a PITA.

So who are you all with? I'm with Equity Red Star at the moment, but more than happy to change.

Anyone care to say who they're insured with? I tried Admiral, and they told me that they don't cover US imports. Several others declined to quote, and the quotes I have had have all been for over £1300. I'm 50-ish, full NCB and clean licence, so no idea what the problem is.

Not only that, most of the brokers insist that it's not a Z06, but that it's a Stratstone coupe(!). That's the only descri[ption that brings up the LS7 engine.

Looks like I'll need to get an immobiliser fitted and carry on with my present insurers, who are happy to insure for £500, unless someone here can point me in the right direction.

Think you need to try the broker that are more US car minded. Stevenage as mentioned above have been covering mine for a while now. Thats on unlimited mileage, agreed value, full Europe etc and with all the mods declared.
It used to alternate with Adrian Flux but they priced themselves out. Although they still cover my other car on business use.
MCE is another a few use although they have always quoted me too much. A-plan through PH is used by a couple of people I know.

Have you had LHD before? A Corvette before? These will also affect your quote. As for the alarm, no no no
I've had a 2010 Camaro, supercharged Roush Mustang, C5 Z06, TVR, etc etc. No claims, no points, full NCB. I'm with Flux now, but even after talking to alarm installers (and owners on here) who warn against fitting immobilisers, and offering to fit a tracker, they still insist on an immobiliser.

I've used Stevenage in the past, as well as A Plan. I'll have another go tomorrow.

Sorted with Stevenage. No additional security needed. I'm not against alarms at all, but my experience has always been that they're more trouble than they're worth, especially as factory-fitted stuff is now much more secure than it was when you could open 95% of cars on the market with a screwdriver...

Come on Ade, you cant get away that easily, how much, limited
miles etc etc ?

Dave
£750, limited to 7500 miles but with option of extending if I get close (which I probably will). Main issue, as already said, was the immobiliser, which isn't required now.

As posted a few months back, I eventually got insured with Stevenage with no alarm, but a mileage restriction.
