"You will be pleased to hear your car is almost complete and is booked for IVA on 11/01/2017! Once it has passed the test we can then send off your documents to get the car registered in your name. Please be aware that the registration process can take several weeks to complete which is why we are requesting these documents now. To register the car I will need the following documents:
• A PDF copy of your insurance certificate with the full chassis number of your car, this is XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
• A copy of your driving licence.
• A copy of a utility bill with your current address on that is not older than three months."

I am a bit confused because normally a car is issued a numberplate to be able to get a V5 and car insurance, but Caterham say we need car insurance (without car registration?) to get the car registered and a V5 issued.
The Caterham recommended insurance companies are at least £250 pa more expensive than other insurance companies that will insure the car, but the cheaper insurance companies will only do so when they have the car registration.

Thanks for all the responses.
1. I insured with Footman James at £260. Will be less when I can get the cars back inside, as at the moment it is going to be in an open bay garage.
2. The IVA has been completed. It is insured on premises at Caterham Cars until it is road registered and taxed at which point I can drive it away.

Can't wait - Caterham 420R, 6 speed

In IVA spec, so wing mirrors to be removed, rear exhaust move back to side exhaust. Stripe to be completed.
