6 speed ‘box - 5th to 4th trouble

My 6-speed gearbox baulks from 5th to 4th on track days. Has anyone had a similar experience?

With normal driving (or if stationary) it flicks down from 5th to 4th very nicely. On a track day I go to change down and it doesn’t slip into 4th, so sometimes I’m braking like crazy and trying to keep to keep on line while jiggling around for a gear. It led to an off-track excursion today.

Taking a straight(ish) line from 5th to 4th works nicely all the time except for when I've been on track for a while. At that point, the 'H' route works but only slowly and it's baulky getting from neutral into 4th...
