Importing to UK

i've done a quick search on ph, but the results weren't too fulsome or up to date.

i'm thinking of buying a 5.0 Mustang in US, driving for 3 mths in US and then importing to uk.
reasoning is:
- the US road trip is a thing we want to do anyway. so hire costs for 3 months kick off the thought of buying. (avoiding let down of a long term rental Corolla!)
- it would be a great journey to drive our own car, and then bring those memories home in a car we want anyway
- costs, if it were neutral i'd be happy.

Any thoughts, experience or contacts would be welcome. i'm in south east.

i think a UK import agent is an expense i'd be happy to pay for.
what are the issues with US Mustangs in UK? (headlamps, fog lights, reverse lights...anything else?)
how do you buy a car in US? (i have family there, so possibility of an address, but no SS number. i did buy a car in 1980 there, but rules may have tightened since.)

This. A LHD Mustang will be tough to move on with so many RHD ones available. But a GT350 will get a decent premium seeing as they are so rare over here.

i'm also considering import to EU as well, where lhd is useful. Better place to stretch the legs too

I guess i'd ask a piece of string question: is it civilised enough for road trips? (spouse on board)
i'm used to lightweights and can tolerate more than most. that said, i wouldn't want a car like this to be too raw as i'd much prefer real agility and feel from a lighter car when uncomfortable. this car is about the engine primarily.
