Free MMORPG recommendation, please

There are quite a lot out there. Not sure which one I should try. For background purposes, I got bored of WoW. I really enjoyed Diablo 2, particularly the "runs". I also liked the fact I could summon things that would stay with me until they died and that helper you could kit up.

With that in mind, which free PC-based MMORPG should I be looking at?

I'm an old school ADND geek so would prefer a more "Western" fantasy-based RPG, really. I tried that RuneScape and spent a good hour trying to feed my baby troll. Any hints? TBH I didn't really enjoy playing it. Seemed to lag or something; just didn't feel as quick to follow my commands as Diablo 2 used to.

Given that I've been playing Realm of the Mad Gods, poor quality graphics aren't an issue.

I tried MMOhut but it didn't really distinguish between the games in terms of classes that have pets to do the work for you.

Ha, yes, it does takes ages to get used to the mechanics.

Hm. One good thing about RQ is that it's browser-based.

As I say, graphics aren't the issue. Compared to Diablo 2 (which has worse graphics), something felt clunky about the GUI. I don't know what it is.

Decided to check out Lord Of The Rings Online - seems Loremaster can summon stuff. I have a pet raven.

That's brand new - I suspect my PC won't be able to handle it. PlanetSide 2 is a struggle at lowest graphics settings!
