Horizon Zero Dawn
Discussion
Played it for an hour after work and first impressions are good - lovely looking game, and very quick and easy to get into - As I expected there are a lot of similarities to Tombraider and Far Cry, (which isn't a bad thing), some almost identical like having camp fires as save points, killing the wildlife etc, really looking forward to getting more into it...

How are you supposed to destroy the camp alarms?
ETA: and what's the point of so doing?
I take it I can't hack all robots without getting something extra. I've got a horsey, but can't seem to hack tigers. I'm a level 8, I think. Do I need to find a doorway thing?
You can destroy the alarm by sticking your spear in it or shooting it - if guards see you as you're trying to take over the camp they'll activate the alarm and then more people will come to get you.ETA: and what's the point of so doing?

With regards to hacking the robots, you'll unlock more as you go along - try to get into the 'cauldrons' as they become available as I think that's where you unlock different robots

Thank you. Cauldrons is what I meant by 'doorways', but I couldn;t remember the name. Are they easy to spot?
I can't destroy alarms by hitting or by shooting, and neither can Mrs Doofus. Do they require specific arrows?
Ive only found one cauldron so far and can't remember how I came across it - I think it might have been a side mission but could be wrong - quite impressive though, would imagine on PS4 Pro/UHD it would look awesome - very 'alienesque' inside...I can't destroy alarms by hitting or by shooting, and neither can Mrs Doofus. As for the alarms, I seem to remember getting close to one and having to press triangle which then stuck a spear through it, but I'm sure an arrow worked (could be wrong though, my memory is ste when it comes to how I've done things in computer games)
There's a mission (can't remember the name of it now) where you have to find 2x power adapters to open a door and get a suit of armour - i found them both, opened the door and now it tells me I've got to find another 2 or 3 of them before I can open yet another door to get the armour, but no idea where they are - am I missing something here? I can't search the entire map for them as it would take forever....sorry for the vagueness of this, I can never remember what anything is actually called in this game!
I was trying to get that armour before taking on the Redmaw, but completed that mission the other day without it and was very surprised to kill it without taking any damage whatsoever! Just stood on some rocks where it couldn't quite reach me and then pelted it with everything I'd got - I was expecting to have to retry that mission hundreds of times
I think I've only actually used the ropecaster about twice - and that was just when checking out what it does - I always forget I've got it as I'm too busy throwing bombs and shooting arrows....As for the Tripcaster, I usually use that when I've got a Thunderjaw to contend with - Just fire a load of them in the same place and then get it to run through them, that usually knocks a load of health off of them
I completed the game last weekend, and was on about 80% - Have done all cauldrons (took me ages to work out how to get out of the bandits one too!), all corrupted areas, found all the collectibles, all side missions I think - apart from the Hunting ones which I could never be bothered with - although now I have much better weapons they're much easier so might go back and finish them). Still never managed to get that special armour - Even after googling for instructions, I still didn't find all the power thingies, might have to go back to those another time.
Agree about the rockbreakers, they were the worst of all the machines, however I did find that there was always a fairly large rock sticking out of the ground in their area that they wouldn't break and you'd be safe to stand on top of it, although you'd still need to move around to dodge the rocks they throw at you. As for the Thunderjaws, I usually managed to find somewhere in the rocks where they couldn't quite get to you and you could just pelt them with bombs / arrows etc. Took me a while to work that out.
I might go back and try to get 100% at some point, but as always when completing a game, my interest has gone a bit now, but I loved playing it - It takes a lot for me to get really immersed in a game nowadays and see it through to the end, but this one definitely hit the spot.
