Heads Up: Steam sale
Discussion
I thought it might be useful to have a thread where people can give each other a heads up on Steam sales.
Right now, there is a sale on that ends 6pm tomorrow (ie. Monday 19-Jun-17) and amongst the items in the sale are Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, at £7.49 apiece.

Ooh! "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" Season Pass down from £24.99 to £6.24 - I was hoping that might be in the sale.
Likewise "Day of the Tentacle (Remastered)" is £2.74 down from £10.99
Ker-chinggg!
Edit: I read a good review on Abzu and that is £4.26 so that's in the cart too.

Seems the PayPal offer is no longer available. I get "Thanks you for being a loyal customer. Unfortunately, you can't save any more offers for this merchant at the moment".
A quick google suggests that there was a paltry £24k put aside for this and when that was expended the offer expired. Which is a bit pants.
Edit: T&Cs of the offer say "The Offer shall not be available if the aggregate monetary amount credited to customers reaches GBP 24,000.00"
I think it's pretty crap that the offer is meant to run from 20th June to 5th July, but has run out after less than 3 days.

I too would be interested.
I very much enjoyed "Everyone's Gone to the Rapture" (even if it did play like an episode of The Archers), and "Gone Home". But for some reason Ethan Carter just didn't gel for me and I gave up on it.
Edit: Soma is £6.89 right now, and I haven't played that. So maybe I will give that a go.

Well, it looks like that PayPal offer really is ended after less than 3 days. Utterly ridiculous.
I guess I may as well hit "Purchase" on the £20.13 of items in my cart then, as it doesn't look like the offer is going to be renewed.
Currently I have "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided DLC - Season Pass", "Day of the Tentacle Remastered", "ABZU Deluxe Edition", and "SOMA" in the cart.

Currently playing Wolfenstein New Order, Borderlands 2 and Bioshock Infinite. Three cracking games that I should probably have gotten around to playing sooner.
Good choices! Bioshock Infinite especially. The way it ties all the Bioshock games together at the end is mind-blowing (no spoilers). If you like Wolfenstein: The New Order then get Wolfenstein: The Old Blood too. I'd say it is arguably the better game.
The only negative thing I'd say about Borderlands 2 is that it felt rather 'more of the same' to me and lost some of the original's charm, but it's a good romp for sure.

South Park: The Stick of Truth - £6.24
I'm tempted by this. Any good?PayPal offer has been confirmed as definitely expired.
Unsurprisingly, people aren't very impressed.

Yeah, it ran out before the Steam sale even started and they are some sort of Sponsor/ Partner for the sale! A bit of an own goal there.
Indeed. The cap was ridiculously low, and the discount too high. So not only was the pie too small but the slices of the pie were too big, so not many people got even a taste of pie. Mmmmm pie.
They would have been better off making it a 10% discount (£2) rather than 25% (£5) as more people would have benefited.
Also, a £24k pot was just pathetic.

Actually i sort of bummed out on the first, it was when i found out that the game gave you all these nice toys and then punished you for killing.
A not unreasonable observation. I played it through twice - in Low Chaos and High Chaos and they are almost two different games when played those two ways. I picked up a few games in the sale and am starting to work my way through them with little success.
Day of the Tentacle (remastered) - blew through this in no time as I still remembered the solution despite it being decades since I last played it. Didn't take long.
SOMA - started off ok, then you find yourself transported to a sci-fi environment avoiding a monster. Kind of lost interest as I wanted an "explore and discover stuff" game not a survival horror game.
ABZU - just can't get on with the UI. Probably need to try again. Maybe use a game controller rather than keyboard & mouse, but I do not own a game controller.
South Park - The Stick of Truth - expected an amusing interactive episode of South Park, got a lame D&D combat game loosely based on South Park. Hated it.
Deus Ex Mankind Divided Season Pass - the two extra DLCs it added were ok.
System Rift was sort of amusing in a Portal / Tron way, but got a bit platformy and lame. A glitch at the end prevented me from finishing it and I had to watch the rest on a playthough video on YouTube. I didn't miss much.
A Criminal Past was quite good though, and may stand up to another playthrough as there are some pretty gamechanging choices early on.
So, all in all, not really a successful round of purchases.

Just to update this, I read an article on Kotaku today that SOMA is coming to the XBox One and will have a "safe mode" that allows you to explore & experience the game without the whole "OMG I'm going to die" aspect that put me off it. And, better still, there is a mod for the PC version that does the same.
So I installed that today and am now playing SOMA again and it is much better. Much more the "explore, discover, and find out what the hell happened here" story that I was hoping for.
