'Playstation Classic' announced.
Discussion
I have many fond memories of playing Gran Turismo, Tekken, Crash Bandicoot, Destruction Derby and so many others that this is very tempting other than, firstly I still have my original Playstation (in the original box), and secondly if it will allow other games (ROMS) to be loaded on to it (like the SNES mini|).
Tempting but it depends on the games. Of the five announced so far I'd only really play Tekken 3 and Final Fantasy VII. To be honest I'm far more tempted by something like this:

More expensive but more flexible.

Waste of money, first couple of hours you will go 'wow I remember this' then the following day its gathering dust when you realise you enjoy modern games much more with all the connectivity etc. Nostalgia is a great motivator to selling though! I was one of the first people to get one of these (mate was a manager at Sony and I used my student loan to get one on launch day lol) FF7 was awesome, F1 games good too. Tekken. But Wipeout was ground breaking :-)

Nope. Based on my brief experience with a mini-SNES before i gave it away, retro games are best left as good memories.
Very much this, think I spent about 2 hours tops on the SNES which is now gathering dust.Jasandjules said:
I have fond memories of the PS1. Because of this, I won't be getting that unit and seeing the appalling graphics etc which will ruin my blinkered view...
Same here. Loads of titles I was a fan of. But looking at screenshots of Ridge Racer, Tomb Raider, etc. I can barely make out what I'm looking at. The older 2D games hold up much better than the original 3D games the PS1 sported.Xaero said:

Thats the thing, at the time in context it was a step up. Play them now and they look like something a 14 year old could knock up at home on a mobile phone! I understand playability is important but lots of games also rely on realism, and the old PS1 stuff doesn't have it! If I was playing any of a racing/openworld/shooter/sports game, PS4 trumps PS1 everytime.

Well - yesBut I can't be the only person who enjoys a good old wallow in back in the day nostalgia? Playing games from when I was 14 or 15 makes me happy and isn't that the name of the game?
