I bit the bullet and bought the Ultimate package from Steam, as I usually buy the base game, and then end up buying the rest of the stuff anyway!

Anyone else looking forward to this, after playing Origins?

Played 5 hours of this last night, and I do like it. However, I am not blown away in the same way I was with Origins. The graphics do not look quite as good for some reason, perhaps it's the setting, Egypt had quite a warm colour palette whereas Greece doesn't - maybe it's the GPY settings. I had everything on very high with Origins (Intel 8600k, 16gb RAM and 1080 GPU), but the automatic settings for this game put most things on low with the same components.

Gameplay is more or less the same, though, and I am sure I will sink over 100 hours in this..

Played a lot more and still liking it very much.

If there's one minor gripe, that would be with the apparent political agenda. I am playing as Kassandra, and the developers have clearly made her a lesbian, as she seems only interested in bedding the female characters, with no such options for interactions with males, and all of my ship lieutenants are female, as in my game at least, they all have much better stats than the male equivalents. I do not mind this, as I know it is historical fact that many batted for both sides in this era, especially men - but giving the female characters better stats is going a little too far, I think.

This doesn't spoil my overall enjoyment of the game, but it is something I am noticing a lot more (even in Rome 2 which again, I don't mind so much), that developers are trying to push that woman are much better than men, evidenced by better stats for them, meaning you're more compelled to choose them.

Make all things equal, please, but not one gender much more equal then the other...

7 hours in so far and I'm not enjoying it as much as Origins, but some of the reviews said it takes a while to really get going so we'll see how that goes.

So far I prefer the Egyptian setting for Origins along with its protagonist, Bayek, who had a much more compelling story right from the start. At the moment there's a distinct lack of focus on why I should be bothered about all the killing and stealing - no doubt this will come in time, but so far so whatever.

The controls also seem clumsy and unresponsive too at time - getting stuck on the edges of walls and being unable to jump or move. Then there's the issues with 21:9 monitors that weren't present in Origins - very worrying considering it's using the same engine.

New mercenary system sucks too, with new mercenaries seeming to randomly appear from nowhere in the middle of a fight.

In all, so far I have to say I'm disappointed.

I am about 20 hours in, and I have to agree, I do prefer Origins. But I like the very late Roman Republic era much more, and I have a feeling, having played both, that the developers put a lot more heart and soul into origins than Odyssey.

I would have loved it if they had continued with the Bayek storyline, and just expanded the map eastwards, or even north west to include Roman Italy.

Having said that, I am enjoying it, just perhaps not as much as I had hoped, after spending almost £100 on this particular version - I find the map harder to read, too, and the terrain seems t be l the same, very hilly and rocky..

O and another thing, do not purchase any of the armour packs, I did and found they were next to useless once levelling up, as the in-game resources cost is way too high to upgrade them. You are better off just changing your armour and weapons as you level up. I don't recall it being this resource hungry (when wanting to upgrade your favourite gear to your skill level) in Origins.

And while we're still moaning: the changes to the bows is crap too. They should have stuck with different types instead of making them skills that require button presses (that don't work half the time).

I am enjoying this one gripe. when you level up certain islands and challenges also level up. I know its to give you a challenge, but it is annoying when you see someone at level 25 when you are 22 only for them to become 28 when you are 25,

Am having to split my time between this and RDR2!!!
Yes, I am no hardcore gamer (being 51..), and loved Origins because it had good difficulty options. I am more interested (and happy) to soak up these virtual worlds without my controller dexterity being tested every few (virtual) yards. That's when it can get frustrating for me. At least in Origins, I had the option to not had the enemy AI level up to my limits.

Still really loving it (with around 60 hours in and level 49), but some aspects I still have trouble with.

I finished all three stories, I enjoyed the experience so much, I am now playing through the whole game again, but making sure to not make the same choices as before.

I did pay almost £100 for this game, but I think I have got my money's worth a few times over.

£25 on steam ,worth getting ?
I spent almost £100 on the pre-order bundle, and I still think that was money well spent, considering the hours of enjoyment I have got from this (and still am), so £25 is a steal!

Not played Odyssey, but Origins was very enjoyable.
I love both almost the same, but I d feel that a little more 'heart and soul' went into Origins, so that may just edge it. I love both periods, Classical Greece and Rome, and have played both to death, but have started a new Odyssey game again.

I have it on PS4, I bought it after my HTPC stopped working, and boy are the loading screens slow. I since fitted a new mobo to the PC and all's well again, and the difference in performance between PS4 and PC is very noticeable.

Finished the main story today. I'm at level 52, and highly f*cked off with the farting boar. Going to try the merc trick on it.

Got some cultists to finish off and I've done most of the side missions (grind to level up as I'm crap at fighting), so not much more playing time left in it for me. Did RDR2 on xbox when it came out, so looking around for the next challenge.

Not sure I can be arsed with the Minotaur, that maze is a pain.
I have to be honest and say I buy and play these games purely for the story and the experience of exploring ancient worlds. What I hate is having to spend a long time chipping away at a 'Bosses' HP bar, it always reminds me of the 32 bit console game days. So I use a trainer for one hit kills just for these specific instances, as all they do is stop the fun stone dead until they are defeated. Once done, I turn the trainer off and go along my merry way.

I feel your pain - I, too, detest 'boss fights' along with so many other console game conventions like quick time events (or as I prefer to call them "stab at random buttons like an eight year old with ADHD on kwik-save own-brand orange juice"). ranting

I'm getting too old for this st... frown
Talking of QTE, I have bought every single Tomb Raider game, as the original really was a revelation for me (that plus Resident Evil and a little later, the original Silent Hill), I end up getting bored of the new TR games, so linier plus QTE button pushing!

When I was exploring the tombs and pyramids in Assassins Creed: Origins, I realised that this is how the TR games should have evolved, Origins felt a lot more 'Tomb-Raidery' than the latest TR efforts.

Is origins as good?
I have played both extensively, and finished both more than once. For me, Origins is the better experience, it seems the developers put their heart and soul into this game. I do like Odyssey, but wherever you go in the game world, you realise the developers got lazy and ended up cutting and pasting a lot of assets in all areas.

Also, when comparing a city like Alexandria in Origins to Athens in Greece, the former has a bustling feel about it, lived in with people going about their business. In contrast, Athens feels dead.

Even after playing through Origins twice, I have started again and am still in awe at the beauty and diversity of the many locations.

They are better on a decent spec PC, I have both games on PC and PS4, and the PS4 load times are very long compared to the Steam versions on PC.

Was hoping the next AC would be in Rome, following on from Origins, but never mind..
