Since they've basically adopted PC technology, the PS5 and Xbox Series X are essentially just like buying a newer, higher-spec PC. It just runs all your old games better and can potentially play new games that the older hardware wouldn't have been able to handle, or handle very well.
It's not like the 'old days' when each new generation of console was a radical leap in architecture and power and featured a big leap forward.
People have just got caught up in the hype and are bored being stuck at home. Once they get the shiny new toy they realise that there's nothing about it that makes them want to rush out and buy tons of new games if they weren't doing so already with their old console. I reckon most gamers have a pile of existing games that they haven't played (or at least, come even close to finishing) so unless the new kit offers something mindblowing, they are unlikely to want to start lashing out big bucks (on top of the console price) for new games. On the other hand, they can play that pile of games that they already have with faster loading times and higher framerates, for no extra cash.
That's exactly the case. I managed to bag a launch console by luck but haven't even played a proper PS5 only game as yet. None of the launch titles seemed worth £60 to me. Main benefit I've seen is that its quieter the the PS4 pro. Otherwise It really isn't much to get excited about right now and certainly not worth paying double for from a scalper. Mines dead.
I did the latest system update last night which seemed to go fine. I then downloaded and fired up destruction all stars. I was enjoying the tutorial when it just turned off completely and now will not boot. I get a beep, a blue light and then nothing.
Time to find out how good the repair/replacement service is.
Luckil not got round to selling my PS4 pro yet so I’ve still got something to use for my gt sport league racing!

Surely Sony could cut out the scalpers by just increasing the RRP to the £750 mentioned earlier and claim the hundreds of pounds of extra profit for themselves until supply improves.
The scalpers will buy them and then up their price further. Sony can do nothing really, it’s beyond their power to control the retailers and they can’t make enough to meet demand hence the huge profits and attraction to the scalpers.
