I've had a couple of TrackIR's over the years but always sold them on after a while. During lockdown i've been playing DCS more and purchased a Warthog HOTAS which I thought would be complemented by head tracking.

I do have a Rift S which is superb in DCS but I find it tiring after a couple of hours so decided to check out TrackIR again... Well it's certainty gone up in price ( last one cost me £120 ) and at the moment cant be had anywhere so I've decided to go with a DELANCLiP Gamer which will set me back about £70 compared to around £175 for TrackIR.

I'll post a review when it arrives !

nothing beats VR for DCS in my opinion, complete lack of immersion if you're using anything else. I know the resolution isn't as good but I just don't think it can be beat. I just upgraded from a Rift S to a Reverb G2 and it's made a huge difference in clarity and colour/washout.
I agree but I don't have £500 + spare for a G2 :-) I'm happy with a 70 quid head tracking solution when i've had enough time on the Rift.

Try the SmoothTrack app for a tenner-uses your phone camera as a head tracker. Pretty good but needs good light, and proper mounting for the camera where it has a good view
Purchased the DELANCLiP. Probably not work on my 10 year old phone anyway biggrin

I had the Delanclip and fairly recently bought a Reverb G2. I'd echo that the full VR system is "better" but not without a couple of caveats. For a start, you can use the zoom function with the Delanclip (or other TrackIR type system) but not wth VR. Second, in VR the head tracking is always 1:1 - turn left 30 degrees, that's where you look. with the TrackIR/Delanclip etc. systems you have motion "curves". This takes some tuning to feel "natural" but the net result is that it's easier to be able to see behind the aircraft or directly above you.

I am really impressed with the G2 but I find the field of view a bit limited and even within that, the image is blurry at the edges so I really have to move my whole head rather than glance down at displays etc. VR systems are still some way off "perfect" and they are still expensive, if I'd been able to try a G2 before purchasing I might have stuck with my Delanclip a bit longer.
Yeah as I said in my OP I have a Rift S and it's great but sometimes I just don't fancy playing in VR. Was the Delanclip OK I have had a couple of TrackIR 5's in the past. Did you sell your Delan when you purchased the VR headset ?

Update for anyone interested in Delanclip i've finally had time to sit down and get this up and running. It just feels like TrackIR to me but about 100 quid cheaper.

Yes it's not as as polished but for the price it's great.
