I'm thinking I can sit on the sofa and play games with it rather than just poncing with the ipad whilst the Mrs watches whatever it is she watches.

I thought the starting price was pretty good but lets be honest, it will be the middle or top spec one with the docking station when it comes out.

I guess a lot of the performance issues are solved by the relatively low resolution (1280 x 800)

The form factor is the appeal. With a laptop you need either another mouse and keyboard or a separate controller. A gaming laptop is a compromise from a desktop. There will always be something technically better, you have to weigh up what is important to you. Performance a desktop wins, pickup and play a console, space saving with a laptop, portable a Switch is really the only 'proper' gaming option. This gives you an alternative.

They need them out the door though. Alternatives will be along soon and all those deliveries more than 6 months out are going to have second thoughts.

Does anyone know if you can tell your order number or place in the queue?
I ordered back in July. None of the methods I can find on the web seem to give any useful info. I assume they have just binned the expected delivery option as they really don't know.

OK, it's not easy. The best I can find is you go to the choose your steamdeck page in the store and under the options are expected delivery dates which all just say After Q2 2022.

At least 4 months then. Weird way of phrasing it, not Q3 or Q4 but after Q2.

You've made me think about what I would do with this?

I don't commute anymore, any long distance in country is usually with me driving. I rarely use a train, long haul is rare at the moment and even if I was long hauling that would likely be with the kids and Child1 would want to use it.

The Switch has barely been touched in the last year.

I have a high end gaming PC in the house plus a PS5, Laptop and ipad.

I'll wait and see.

I ordered Day 1 and my delivery date is currently Q3 July - September.

I'm on the fence as well. £500 is a lot of money for something that unlikely to get much use. We already have a NSwitch and multiple ipads, PSNow and Steam remote play installed.
I suppose I could use it on the sofa when the wife is watching her TV programs and the boy is in my gaming room.

Thanks for doing the research, you realise that this is most man maths/justification?
I can only think of one thing I sold on after getting it and that was the PSVR when they came out. Sold it on to a friend of a friend for a small mark-up on retail.

I never even noticed a tag, I guess I just snipped it off.

Decided I'm going to get rid. It's a lovely piece of kit, glad I tried it but it ain't for me. With CEX offering £650 cash, I think I'll take the easy way out avoiding the fkwits, conmen, shipping and fees on ebay/FB.
