Apologies if there is a similar thread already running.

The current free game on Epic Games Store for Windows is Borderlands 3 until 26-May-2022

That's free to keep forever, as if you had purchased it. Which you do, as you "purchase" it for a 100% discount.

Sadly you just missed Prey (2017)

Thanks muchly, I will give it a whirl.
This could be a good thread to keep bookmarked. If people post the game(s) that have just been released as Free as released then it could be a useful thread.

Anyone else have any GPU issues with Borderlands 3, I had it on ultra settings as I always start with, unlimited frames and it was pushing my GPU to 77 degrees (I rarely see above 70 on anything even 3dMark benchmarking) I used Geforce experience to see what it suggested and it turned a few things down a notch but then turned my display up to 4k, I use a 1440p monitor and it often suggests that. But 4k is more power, but doing that along with limiting frames to 60fps brought gpu temps down to the high 50s. If I turn frame limit up a notch to 120 it goes into the 60s and setting it to my monitor refresh rate of 165 (or unlimited) it goes crazy again. I wasn't able to see what GPU utilisation was at 77 degrees but I'm guessing 99-100%.

GPU RTX 3080.
Can't help there, I'm afraid. But my overclocked GTX 1080Ti is running at a rather toasty 84°C driving a 3440x1440 screen with everything on ultra. Frankly I'm quite impressed that it's managing that!

What frame rate is it set at in the game settings, if it's unlimited try dropping it and see if the temps go down, IIRC 84 is thermal throttling territory for the 1080 Ti.

Ps. My requirement is for it to be as quiet as possible and so I like to keep things below 70.

Thought too, maybe it's DX12 mode, I'll try DX11 tonight, I know some games have screwy moments between the two (MSFS 2020 for example)
Thanks for the info. Capping the FPS to 60 and lowering a few non-essentials like Volumetric Fog have brought temperatures down a little. Only to 83 C at the hottest but sometimes falling below that into the high 70's.

Anyway, since a dedicated Borderlands 3 thread exists, it's probably best to take any further discussion there.

Bioshock Trilogy today. 1 & 2 Remastered versions + Infinite (includes Burial at Sea DLC Ep1 & 2 and Clash in the Clouds DLC)
Awesome. Well worth having if you haven't already.

Sadly for me, I own all of them already on Steam. I may as well pick them up on Epic too though just as a backup, just like I did with Prey.

Nice, I always forget to check.

I completed Bioshock and Infinite but not 2 for some reason and I usually don't bother with DLC as I'm usually bored by that point and move on.

Another mystery game next week as well.
The Burial at Sea DLCs for Infinite are absolutely worth doing, especially part 2. They lead up to the events of Bioshock 1 and also let you experience Rapture before the fall. They are really worth it.

Heads up: Supraland will be free during Jun 16 - Jun 23

It's essentially a first-person platformer / puzzler with mild combat, and exploration, set in a kid's backyard (you're really really small). But even though I can't stand platforming I absolutely loved it. Very quirky and fun.

I ummed and ahhed a little and bought the season pass bundle for my free copy of BL3, as I played BL2 lots and enjoyed the DLC stuff... and it was also on offer at £18-something... seemed reasonable for how much time I'm likely to spend playing this. About 4 or 5 hours in so far smile
That's quite funny as I have literally just done the same. Like about 30-odd mins ago.

I've now completed the whole of BL3 plus a 2nd TVHM playthrough. I have been playing it a LOT. hehe

Just a quick bump to say Supraland is currently free until tomorrow. I really recommend it.

Then, from Jun 23 - Jun 30 we have both "A Game Of Thrones: The Board Game Digital Edition" and "Car Mechanic Simulator 2018"

Hello, my name is Defblade, and I'm a Borderlands addict.

It's just ridiculously playable; the frequency of red text flavour weapons that do something interesting/silly has gone through the roof, I'm picking up a new favourite every half an hour or so and laughing a lot smile
Would you like to join me at.... the.............................. counter?

Lawn Mowing Simulator incoming! Based on UK locations & greenery apparently . . .

Surely a must have!?! biggrin

ETA - FREE in two days.
Free now, as of 18 mins ago.

Reviews seem to suggest it is strangely calming and relaxing.

By contrast, I really didn't get on with Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 that was available a few weeks back. Whilst I recognised all the various parts and equipment from various car-based TV programmes like Fast & Loud, Chasing Classic Cars, Wheeler Dealers, etc. etc., it didn't really engage.

Update: Doesn't run for me. Silently crashes to desktop the moment I launch it. I'm running Windows 10 (which it says is supported) and meet all the system requirements. How annoying.

Did you try launching again?

Do you have GeForce Experience installed, does it recognise the game (scan for new games) and use it's recommended settings. Something might be set wrong. Or look for a config file and do manually.
I tried a few relaunches and then a reboot and relaunch. I haven't tried anything further yet; I'll look at it later.

Thanks for the advice though. thumbup

Have a look in the comments section of this video - currently third (or greater) comment down "how to fix the problem on Epic games? "

https://youtu.be/V2gUoqJ3A5Q

You are not alone it seems CC . . .
LOL. Judging by 50-odd comments basically saying "me too" and "same here" it would seem not. hehe

For the benefit of others, the TL;DR from the comments is the developer messed up their Epic drop. To the extent of still including the Steam API DLL in the installer, apparently (which is obviously completely useless with Epic). Seems the developer have tweeted that they are working on a fix.

You'd think someone would have tested this on Epic ahead of this going live today wouldn't you? confused

Also on Epic is Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition again if anyone missed it last time.
Already in my library, and never played. smile

Also free right now until 08-Sep-22 is "Submerged: Hidden Depths" which is described as a "a non-combat third-person 'relaxploration' adventure"

I generally don't like 3rd person, mainly because it never gels for me with combat, but for a non-combat game perhaps I will give it a go.

I do not know how dated it now feels, however Fallout 3 will be one of the free games later today.
There is a shed-load of mods for it, some of which add better textures and the like, so that may help.

Even though I own it and played it to death (100's of hours of gameplay), I may pick it up for free from Epic as I have a feeling I can no longer play my copy as it relies on Microsoft DRM servers that were turned off years ago.

edit: I seem to have the GOTY Edition on Steam too. I must have bought that in a Steam sale at some stage despite already owning it
edit: My Steam history says £5.09 in June 2015.

I've never even considered playing Fallout 3 for some reason but having just read IGN's original review it seems a no-brainer to download & give it a go.

Yep - thanks for the heads-up. smile
It's a great game for sure; I have a huge soft-spot for it.

I can't begin to imagine how much time I sunk into Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 4. I know it was hundreds and hundreds of hours though. Well over a thousand.

Good to see that it is the GOTY Edition that Epic are giving away, as the Broken Steel DLC (which is included) is pretty much essential as without it the story feels rather truncated, as if Broken Steel was meant to be in there from the beginning.

I kind of envy you guys who haven't played it before. No spoilers, but I wish I could re-experience (for the first time) a certain moment early in the game.

Rising Storm 2: Vietnam is currently free, if you fancy a bit of 2017-vintage shooty action.

Update: Just installed it and tried to run it, and it tried to install something called "EasyAntiCheat Service" which I refused to allow to install and it won't run without it.

I'll pass thanks.
