The theme for the December competition is.....

a repeat from 2010, but seeing as I've only had a camera for five years, I'm claiming ignorance

"Perspective"

This can be interpreted very widely, so I'm hoping to see quite a few different takes on "Perspective". My very ordered and slightly OCD mind seems to have an attraction for symmetry and converging lines - I have a few in my own FlickR feed, such as this one:-

Going up in the world... by Nigel Ogram, on Flickr

I'd love to see some other ideas - perhaps something from nature, or even some macro shots

It would be interesting to hear a back-story to a particular photo - was it set up, or was it opportune? Did you plan it, or just stumble across it (as I did with the underground escalator shot)

Good luck everyone.

Rules:
The photos taken must be your own work and can be taken at anytime, but please get out with your gear if you have time.
The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.
The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for the following month and judges it at the end of the month.
Entries and discussion on this single thread, please.
All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.
Photos entered can be as large as you like, although bear in mind if too large, it may not be possible to see the whole image on some screens. Links to larger versions are permissible.

Single photo only

Damn, it’s going to be difficult to pick a winner, and we’re only a few days in....

Whilst its an honour to be picked as a winner of a PH photography competition, it comes with a downside - picking the next month's winner! Definitely not an easy task, given the calibre of the entries, but here we go...

In third place - Taj Mahal Palace Hotel by Begarall - I love the symmetry and the converging lines and of course the subject matter is pretty exotic too

In second place - the rusty steps by designforlife - I really liked the dilapidation of the steelwork and the shallow depth of field. I also like the back-story - I assume she said yes?

Point Dume, Los Angeles. Taken December 2017 just before I proposed to my Mrs.

And in first place - Walton on the Naze by Noell35 - this shot was one of those that just grabs attention due to the novel perspective - I love the simplicity and the composition, but yet there's loads of detail there when you look for long enough.

Well done Noell35 - over to you for the first competition of the new decade
