Well, I didn't think this would come around, but watching the Apple Event yesterday and what the new 12 Pros will now do, both for hardware and software advances....

I actually had the thought that my dSLR and bundle of very nice lenses are just going to gather dust if I upgrade the 'phone.

Now I really, really enjoy using my Nikon kit - wouldn't give it up for another brand, despite the fact ALL the manufacturers produce pretty wonderful kit these days - well certainly since I first got a SLR which was a second-hand Pentax S1a that replaced my Kiev 4 when technology all seemed a lot simpler..... I mean, we're talking about 45 years of using SLR!!

Am I now at the tipping point?

Anyone else there now?

Is there even going to be a market for secondhand dSLR and lenses soon? - there! you see? It's in my head now!!!! eek

Here you go... sort of...

Although I agree about the 500mm, high frame rate, Raw etc, but common sense suggests the tech will improve...
Yes - that’s quite impressive and the sort of thing I think worth exploring.

Since starting this thread, I’m still thinking about it - and, of course, it’s different for everyone. Clearly there are some applications where we have a long way to go, and everything is a compromise, but I’m pretty much sure I’m going to see what I miss if I go to the imminent iPhone and loan all my “serious” gear to my nephew so he can learn all about photography (in the same way I did as a teenager, except with vastly better kit)

I haven’t found the right camera app for me (or whether I should just stick with Apple’s own - after all that’s part of what you pay for if you buy Apple) and I am also thinking of moving away from Lightroom (which I have been wedded to since before it was “Lightroom”), but it’s always good to challenge yourself to new things!

PS - I decided the answer some time ago...

Before The Snow... by Beano!, on Flickr

...and passed some gear on to teenage nephew so he can use with his telescope etc and generally learn all the stuff I learned when I was a teenager.

(Good Uncle, or wot!?)

That is hideous, are you really happy with that? LSD?
No need to mince your words hehe
Well, I for one am delighted by Bacardi's comment.

The actual scene was truly dramatic. I didn't have to do much more than lighten up the foreground. Everyone else seems to think it's marvellous - in our local Facebook group people (who mostly saw that dawn, or have seen someone else's picture of it)are fawning over it - but I'm not hugely pleased - and I've set it as my Mac wallpaper so I have to see it every day until I change it out! rofl

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is video work.
^^^ Good Points ^^^

I just watched: https://youtu.be/t-9YuIg7R1I

Admittedly only at 1080P, but quite a good result, I would say.
