Big thanks to Whoozit for picking my entry from last months submissions.

In an attempt to get car-related, the subject for this month is "panning" (the camera technique, not the gold prospecting method....). I'm not particularly good at it and I tend to use a too-high shutter speed to compensate for my lack of panning skills, which in turn means that I loose the 'blurriness' of the background.

Doesn't have to be car-related of course - it could be the catching of anything moving - a bird in flight, an animal running, an object falling. Extra points awarded for a high "sharpness to speed" ratio....

I'm also using this month to add a rule for the winner - the wiki should be updated by the winner - it's not very difficult, but I've just spent half an hour updating it from April....

Rules:

The photos taken must be your own work and can be taken at anytime, but please do get out with your gear if you have safe opportunity etc.

The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.

You can only submit one, and only one photo.

The winner from the previous month decides on the topic for the following month and judges it at the end of the month.

The winner should update the Photography Competition Photo Challenge Wiki

Entries and discussion on this single thread please.

All entrants acknowledge that they may indeed win and that their adherence to convention ensures everyone else's continued fun.

To get things started - one of my better (luckier?) panning shots - Kamui Kobayashi setting a LeMans lap record in 2017 - he was doing about 180mph in this shot, so I was pretty happy with it.

Just checking I can post here - keep getting a '403 forbidden' error when trying to post the results of the November competition

EDIT - seems I can - obviously something wrong with what I'm trying to post. I'll keep trying....

It's great to be selected as a winner for these little competitions, but picking a winner is never easy! This month was really difficult - all the entries were excellent

Anyway, in traditional 3, 2, 1 order....

in 3rd place - C n C for a great non-car shot. Not particularly slow shutter speed (1/125) but the blur effect on the background gives an excellent sensation of speed.

In 2nd place - another non-car shot from Gad-Westy. I can't really put my finger on why I like this so much, but as a grandfather to two grand-daughters, this shot just touched my heart-strings

And on the top step of the podium this month is (predicatably for PH) a car shot. satfinal's excellent panning image of the drift car is pin sharp where it needs to be and very blurry everywhere else - something I aspire to. I'm guessing that 100mm helps (is it a hefty crop?) but I could never have got something that sharp at 1/60 - well done

So - over to satfinal for the December competition. Don't forget to update the Photography Competition Photo Challenge Wiki
