2.8 air filter box. Replacement or Alternative?
Discussion
Having wrecked my air filter box lid with an Easy Start flaming backfire (unfortunately no video) the repair is functional but not pretty, & I can't seem to source a new one........so I was thinking of alternatives. I've seen pictures of custom Capris showing cone filters on the Bosch system air intake
Had anyone done that for a 2.8 cologne engined S1
Any pictures or sources of custom bits would be of interest cheers

Yes it is the mechanical system but as V8 Green indicates it is a big box about 50 mm tight behind the fan on the hot side of the radiator, just where you want the air to flow
As a long term S1 owner I know anything to keep it cooler in hot weather is a plus.
(Hence I have installed a fuel cooler, and have wrapped the exhaust down pipes and the fuel lines right from the tank. I have also diverted the fuel lines as far away from the exhaust as possible)
I was thinking of a flat face of aluminium instead of the lid with the filter in and hose or hoses out to the side/s to K&N type cone/s in the cooler air around the wheel arches.
This could also give a bit more space for airflow out from the hot side of the rad.
