Rear lights doing that disco thang!

Can anyone give some pointers to rectify what seems to be a common defect on Escorts? Having enjoyed following these cars and watching the show, this is now happening on my S3

When I brake, the lights are fine, but as soon as the indicator or reversing lights come on, the brake light dims.

Any advice for an electrical novice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the response. A thorough clean of the connectors has done the trick.
