Has anyone fitted an aftermarket air filter to their S?? I have an S2 that I am currently doing some work on tarting up the engine bay and would like to fit some aftermarket air filters (K&Ns etc..) The main problem as I see it is that in order to fit an aftermarket air filter, two adapters would be required to convert the square hole on the AFMs to round ones to fit the air filters onto. I have equired and have been told that these items come with the K&N filter kit for the sierra XR4x4 but trying to fit this kit may cause another problem. As far as I can remember the AFMs on the Sierra were side by side and the S2 are one on top of the other making them closer together and possibly too close to fit this kit. I would be interested to know if anyone has solved this issue and what they did to solve it?

Thankyou for your reply Lee. I am presuming the pipercross filter from TVR will be the same as the one that is currently in bits in my garage (it literally fell apart when I took it off). I have two problems with this filter, firstly I`m after looks and I think that the filter that was on before looked like a horrible lump of foam. My second problem is that I will not be connecting the oil breather back up to it so the point where the breather pipe would/did fit is no longer required as I`m going to put one of those small crankcase breathers on!

I think I noticed once on the K&N web site a filter that had two round openings on the back which may do the trick. Have you seen such a filter?

I was going to solve that problem by fitting a breather filter, which just fits onto the oil filler cap.

I think I`m going to have to modify the brackets as Lee did on his S2.

The breather filters are available for all over, from places such as Demon Tweeks. They are just like a tiny version of the usual air filters and they fit onto the oil filler cap.

Speaking of tidying things up, I am also swapping the rocker covers round (as they were when used in the Sierra) as this allows me to shorten the pipe that comes off the other rocker cover to the plenum. The only reason I can think of as to why TVR decided to put them the 'other' way round is that the oil filler neck could get in the way of the large clump of pipes in the area around the swirl pot. Anyone know if this is the case?

Update on swapping the rocker covers round. I have discovered that in turning them round the oil filler neck gets in the way of the alternator so I`m going to have to swap them back! Oh well, it was worth a try I suppose.

I`m not having much luck these last couple of weeks
I have decided to forget the new air filters for now and to put a new standard one back on. Where is best place to get one?

None of the pipercros replacement filters for the S ever came with a hole and fitting in the side for the breather pipe.

You will have to take the fixings from the old one and make a new hole in your new filter and fit it accordingly .... or .... get a 3" length of Garden hose and a K&N to atmosphere oil breather filter and tap it straight of the rocker cover. Works a treat

Save the AFM's aswell. Just remember that on a track day the car breathes much more heavily and you are better advised to fit a catch bottle for this activity. Learnt that one, nearly the hard way

So whats a catch bottle then?
