How bad is Nuneaton? (Car crime)

I've got myself a job based at MIRA starting in August and found a nice apartment just south east of the town centre. No garage unfortunately so stuck to road/drive parking and a small parking area behind the building.

I'll be taking my M140i and a motorcycle (nothing too desirable and hopefully in back garden). Have I got anything to worry about or is it quite quiet? The car and bike might be left there for a few days at a time while I'm away. Is the area known for theft considering how close it is to Birmingham etc? Do I need to invest in some security more than a steering wheel lock and a motorcycle disklock?

The poor sods in Camphill and anyone NW of the town centre with anything nice have it particularly bad, so you've choosen the right area. That our judiciary won't lock them up even when the police have them bang to rights is a particular bugbear of mine.

An FOI to local police about 1 series BMWs might elicit a more definitive answer, the analysts will be regularly looking at the cars to target on their patrols.

I'd also definitely get a bells and whistles tracker that can't easily be found. That and a faraday cage for your keys, or removal/disablement of the keyless go system in it's entirety.

Thanks all for the replies. It looks like a nice spot, close the college and some nice houses on the road. I have a choice with parking, on the street, on the small drive, along the side of the building or right behind the building. I'd rather park behind but then it seems to be quite a secluded area which may be worse if someone knows it's there.

The lack of any considerable punishment to these aspiring footballers is very annoying. I've taken a couple of measures already, removed badging and put a different badge on the back (more for a laugh than anything) and I've got a steering lock. Luckily it's not keyless which is good but not going to stop breaking into the car and I drive etc going missing, especially with the car being left there for whole weekends etc.

Glad to hear its the best part of the town, not looking forward to telling my insurance company though

I moved my stuff in yesterday. It's on the same road as a school/college and I spent a fair amount of time on the street and it was really quiet. The flat is nice and plenty of parking. There are some spaces secluded around the back, I don't know if this would be better or worse.

Thanks for the comment, however unnecessary, but yes it is quite often stolen. Up there with the Golf R (yes a Golf can be desirable too). Do a quick Google and you'll see the aspiring footballer enjoys these cars.

Thank you. Fortunately it's the same rating as my current postcode which is cheap for me, hopefully won't change too much.

I can't change now unfortunately but it would be nice to know where you'd suggest. I was also looking at Hinckley and Market Bosworth previously.

Nuneaton is the Ball Sack of the Midlands. Its only the fact it is so close to Coventry that makes some people view it as 'aspirational' .

That said, MIRA is decent, will be someone there who might take pity and offer you somewhere secure.

I'm debating about bringing the bike at first. I don't need it for the commute as I'm so close and I don't think the roads around it would be better than south Wales. "Ball Sack of the Midlands" is brilliant. I wouldn't have desribed it as inspriational having driven through the town a lot yesterday. Hopefully there'll be someone with a garage and space for a bike. I'd probably feel better leaving the bike in Mira if possible, who knows though.

Rooster- I live in what was once a prime target for both a bike and a choice vehicle. Locally I see crime reports of problems. But not in this street. We drove them out and continue to do so. Find an area, join up with like minded folks and make the area a no go yob area. Find an area and take back control. Once the group causing problems realise that they're not welcome and police get reports, then the groups tend to move away.

Thats good to hear. I haven't seen my neighbours yet, nor met anyone in the same building. I don't know if they're the type for something like that nor am I sure what community they are from. Hopefully I'll be able to have a chat and get to know them.
