PH South West Mendips Treasure Hunt - Sunday November 18th - 12 Noon

Meeting at The Castle of Comfort pub on the B3134 at 12 Noon. Postcode BS40 6DD.

The pub has a children's play area and decent food.

The route will take about an hour and a half to 2 hours.

---

I have devised a treasure hunt around the good, fun roads of the Mendip hills to get us all out and about.

The answers will be fairly easy to find and most of them you can spot from the car as you're driving. Some require a tiny bit more effort. There's no tiny lanes or cryptic clues: just a fun blast around collecting information.

Navigating
You may benefit from a navigator and a sat nav. There will be a full directions sheet with postcodes to help you out. Most answers are found near a safe place to stop.

Prizes
A bottle of wine or something will be awarded to the top three teams.

Points are awarded for each correct answer on the main treasure hunt.

There is also a few additional car-related trivia and puzzles to bump up your score if you can't be bothered to get all the answers along the drive.

If you don't fancy the drive, come out and stay at the pub with us for a chat.

Hopefully see you there,

Graham & Nicky

Ok, cool. Sounds like I need to do some research on clues, find a pub, etc.

Sounds great. Maybe you could get Umair up here and carry on your flirting in person.
Umair will only say he wants to come and then have another pressing engagement when the date nears. I've been stood up so many times.

Yes, this is going ahead. Not sorted a pub yet but 18th November is the date. Most likely we'll start around the Cheddar area as it's fairly central.

Hi Giles,

Plan is the same in that it's definitely happening on the 18th in the mid Somerset area. Weather permitting of course.

This weekend I'm going to scout out some of the pubs and drive the routes and clues to see if they're suitable.

We'll meet for around noon at the pub and I'll give out the clues / tasks and answer sheets ready for a 12.30 start. You'll all bugger off for a good blat to find the answers and return when you like and I'll add up the scores.

The top 3 teams get a prize and the envious jeers of the others... I mean ... polite applause.

I envisage the driving taking about 60-90 minutes so it's not too long. The clues won't be difficult or require local knowledge, and hopefully not be available via Google! Then we can all come back and perhaps eat together at the pub.

It should be a good laugh.

It will not only be a treasure hunt based on a vague route of decent roads, but will also include some puzzles and fairly easy multiple choice trivia about car stuff.

Sounds good but it's the same weekend as the NEC classic show.
What better way to show your wife you love her than taking her to both the NEC and a nice pub filled with nice people?

It's going to be fairly easy with postcodes for some of the questions. Navigator not strictly required.

This hunt will be on good roads around the Mendips so will be fun in a decent car.

I've driven all over the place twice now, thrown away about 4 different routes and now I think I have a good set of questions. I've also written up a full list of directions with postcodes in case anyone gets lost.

Most answers can be found without getting out of the car.

Ah well, I'll still come in my shed!
I was just trying to reassure anyone that fancied bringing their weekend toy that the roads would suit it. No muddy lanes. biggrin

You can turn up in whatever you like.

Thanks for coming everyone. Thank heavens it was decent weather.

Was the time / distance about right? Too long? Too short?

Number of questions about right? Too many? Too few?

Were the postcodes useful?

Would anyone make the journey to north Dorset to do a hunt? I know Dorset far better than Somerset.

Odd, Facebook used to allow me to post links and it would work for anyone. They no longer seem to give you the public share link under the albums.

Ah ha! Found it.

This might work:
