This might be of interest to those of you with an Italian car interest!

The Italian Auto Moto Club, who ran the sadly missed BIAMF, are holding an Italian car/bike event in Devizes, Wiltshire on Saturday 15 July.

If you are interested in exhibiting a vehicle please forward vehicle details (and the event you would like to enter!) to enquiries@italianautomoclub.co.uk. They will confirm acceptance of your vehicle (the criteria is that vehicles should be presentable and interesting !), and would request that payment is made via Paypal or BACS. The entrance fee is £10 per vehicle (car, bike or scooter).

I take your point about paying to display/exhibit. I don't like having to do so myself.
And
You wouldn't expect Lionel Messi and Harry Kane to have to pay fees for a kick around in the park, now would you?

But.

If 'your' car is a true exotic, then I'm sure the public will be happy to pay to view - but with those of us with somewhat 'lesser' cars there aren't very many people willing to pay to view, so us 'displayers' have to cover costs.

The IAMC are a 'club'. It costs money to advertise and organise an event. You can hardly expect an event to be put on at no cost to both those of us who both display and those of us who view, after all, Haynes charge a £5 for a breakfast club attendee (display and viewers),

There are a few 'free' events, such as the Poole Quay for My Car, the George Inn (Longbridge Deverill) but £10'ner to attend - with any profits going to a good cause - is pretty reasonable IMHO.

Since Haynes started to charge I have only been maybe 3 or 4 times, used to be a regular visitor to show mine but it was always a case of wake up look at the weather and decide if I fancied a drive down or not, now it has to be pre planned at least a month in advance to book a ticket before they sell out, I know it's only a £5 if I don't go but it can add up a fair bit if i book for every event and then the weather is crap or I don't feel like going.
With regards to the George Inn (Longbridge Deverill) if you refer to their 'Noggin & Nosh' there is a chance it might not be held this year, they have a new manager running the place and he has already alienated most of the regulars and locals, even most of the staff left within a few weeks of him taking over
re Haynes - I too haven't been since they started charging, partly because of my personal meanness(!) and also, like you, I'd rather not have to commit myself in advance - the great thing about the 'old' Haynes was 'yeah, nice weather lets go or 'nope, it's raining I'll go back to bed!'
Pity about Longbridge Deverill. That was a really good midweek meet, with a great variety of cars.

With regard to Devizes, I think there is a difference between events organised by commercial organisations and those organised by clubs. Unless a club can get sponsorship, like the IAMC were previously able to do for the Bristol Italian Automoto Festival, how can an event be held without charging?
A tenner isn't a fortune - I probably pay twice that in petrol to travel to Devizes - so I'm happy to make a contribution towards the event.

I drove past the 'Noggin & Nosh' around 3.45 on my way home from work and it didn't look that busy, but I guess as it started raining around 3pm and is still raining now......
It was far too wet for me (no roof on car) on Wednesday. I'm glad that some brave souls risked it though - I'd hate for the new management not to run it in the future.

With regard to Devizes.....

The Devizes show was quieter than last year. Again the (predicted) weather had something to do with poor attendance - the Goodwood Festival of Speed was actually cancelled that day.
