Just got back from the TVR/Fezza run. A little later than expected....

Have we upset someone upstairs or summit? First Chim Girl's Tuscan clutch packs up, Andy gets his Cerbie keyed from ar5ehole to beak by some pond life. I see that adove has had his own mishap, and then 50% of the TVR contingent on the TVR/Fezza blast break down (myself and MOD). WTF???

I'll spare you the long story but I have (it appears) a collapsed off-side rear suspension damper. Whilst I was waiting for the tow truck Martyn stopped on his way home, having just had the AA out after his heater matrix packed in! Really showed those Fezza boys a thing or two about reliability eh?!!

Can anyone offer any advice on my woes? I had little choice but to just get the car towed to Harrogate Horseless, although I don't know them so will call them first thing to expain why they have a lop-sided Chim on their forecourt.

Assuming the damper has just collapsed, I guess(hope?) this should be covered by my 12 month warranty? However, if replacing one damper, is it maybe worth upgrading all-round? Any advice welcome re what to do and who to use.

That aside, a top day out (well, until about 2pm). Martyn, cheers for stopping, hope you got home okay. Great to catch up with the rest of you, hopefully see you all again soon for another blast once I'm mobile again.

Oh yeah, and the Enzo. Not bad for a mere £450k...

Shit James, sorry to hear that, and you too Neil. Really feel for you, some people make you bloody sick.

Joseph, you're right, that news does make me feel a bit better! Who was it & what happened? Hope it was nothing serious.

I actually thought I'd just caught the exhaust & thought the noise must have meant that the mountings were broken but it's fine and hadn't touched the ground at all. I think the damper was simply dodgy & just broke. Rather worrying given that I was hooning round Brands on Friday. I was expecting some reliability niggles but that sort of a failure is a bit worrying. Thank god it happened at the speed it did on a straight stretch of road.

I have to say, it was a pleasure following your Cerbie. Fantastic noise, especially on the overrun. Didn't see any Andy-style flames though...?! Cheers for the advice on warranty, yes it is WHG & they have been good so far (albeit Christopher Neils just sorted things out for me last time).

Will keep you all posted & will hopefully be back on the road in the near future.

Cheers Mark, really enjoyed it. Judging by the looks we were getting I think we'll defo have to do it again if only for the purposes of public service! Your 328 looked fantastic by the way.

Sorry to hear about the lads in the blue spider. Maybe if they hadn't spent so long wearing their intercom headphones they may have heard the wheel problem sooner...?! I was seriously thinking they must be having a giraff when they put them on. But then I heard the noise when they nailed it through the tunnels. Enough to make your ears bleed!

Good luck to everyone. No more hassles in February please.

Cheers Neil, nice to know I'm not not alone on this one!

Andy, you're a gent, thanks a bunch for the offer. Problem is, the car is now at HHC & can't be driven back. Having taken the last 7 months off work I could also do with keeping a lid on costs at the moment as I'm unlikely to be working again until after my hols in March. I'll see what HHC say about a warranty claim before making a decision.

I took your advice though and had a chat with Julian at Joospeed - really helpful fella. I'm really interested in the AVOs but I may just have to settle (if possible) for a replacement TVR damper under warranty for now & then upgrade when I'm earning again. Unless HHC can negotiate the cost of the damper on warranty but fit AVOs instead & I just pay the difference?

I'll keep you posted. Thanks all for the advice.

Update: I've gone for a set of adjustable rear AVO's from Joospeed. HHC have agreed to fit them FOC in lieu of what Warranty Holdings will give them to replace just one TVR damper.

Sounds okay to me and once I'm back earning beer tokens again I'll get the fronts upgraded too.
Should have the car back on Wednesday. Until then, it's pedal-power for Chumley...

Thanks again for the advice folks.

Jeez - there seems to be a mountain of evidence building up to suggest that we all stay indoors on Friday 13th. And I'm supposed to be driving up to Newcastle! May have to go on Thursday instead...

Jo, two is unlucky. Three would suggest a pattern forming re cause and effect.... Maybe you should contact Blackpool & see if they can fit this new fangled sequential box to your Tuscan (or Bimmer!?) as part of the development work? If you don't manage to break it then it should be bomb-proof....!

Apologies for the sarcasm. Feeling a bit nippy this morning as I've just found out that the job I apparently had lined-up has fallen through. So Andy, cheers for the offer, don't suppose you can actually make the dampers yourself too can you to save a few more quid....?!!

MOD, hope you stick with it fella. I personally see Tiv ownership as a form of therapy or conditioning. My reckoning is that if you can cope with it then the usual ups and downs of work/domestic life will be water off a ducks back. (or more like you'll be far too worried about your next car bill to be worried about anything else)...

Thanks for the offer Jo. My old fella had offered depending on what time he's working on Wed. I'll have a quick word with him but may take you up on the offer, if you can spare the time (I used to work from home and all my mates just thought I sat on my ar5e all day - as if...!)

Would love a session on Fri 13th but I'm up in Newcastle. We'll certainly have to meet up for a few in Pool though whilst I'm living here. Maybe some a few mid-week sherberts some time next week?

Jo that's really bad news. I presume from the tone of your post that the warranty is long expired?

Good news MOD.

Got mine back yesterday. HHC did a top job of fitting the dampers within a couple of hours of receiving them. Much appreciated given that they seemed to be very busy.

The bad news is that they spotted that 4 new CV boots were required. I think they said 4 hrs labour plus parts & not covered by warranty. Should bump up the price of my imminent service. Bit of an ar5e as I thought that the 12 months warranty would pretty much safeguard me against non accident/service costs for a year (ie so I could budget for my sabbatical). So, another one here wondering what use the warranty is. Looks like replacing the front dampers will have to wait another couple of months. Memo to self: Get new job quick!

Anyway, off up to Newcastle now for a weekend of serious liver abuse. Have a good one all. Take things easy tomorrow....

Could you not do it yourself - it's only going to be a few quid for the gaiters?

Hmm, bit ambitious for me I think? My technical experience so far has been limited to changing the odd punctured tyre & replacing a some worn fuel hoses on a Spitfire years ago!

Does anything need dismantling or is it just a case of removing the wheel, then replacing the gaitor? I'm about to fit the mod-wise boot opening kit I got for Chrimbo so if I manage to do that without shafting the electrics, I could give it a go.

Reet-o Newcastle beckons...
