Are there any of us in East Yorkshire? I don't think I have heard of or met any.

I'm moving back over that way from Huddersfield in about six weeks so just wondered whether I would be on my own in spreading the good word... well, making a godawful racket and scaring the wildlife anyway

And at least the road surface is better over there

I can see an East Yorks Hoon and BBQ kind of idea forming as I type

Where's East Yorkshire (never heard of it before)??? Or at least what does it include???? I could probably trek from N. Leeds for a bit of a pootle.

Whaddya mean you've never heard of it before???? The East Riding of Yorkshire... the Wolds, Driffield, Bridlington, Hull, Goole, oh, and the Humber Bridge! ... basically, as you go over the big Boothferry Bridge over the end of the Humber/Ouse that's East Yorkshire...

Oh, and you're right about that Market Weighton to Howden road Martyn, flat as a pancake, straight as an arrow, and about three miles long oh

Jo - how long does it take you to get to work from your place?

It'll only take me 90 mins barring M62 cockups. I've done 60 - 75 mins before for long enough, doesn't worry me... but Vic is 5 mins down the back lanes to work and 5 mins to Gabby's nursery, so swings and roundabouts.

But like I said, it'll be between an hour and 20 mins to an hour and a half, nice steady motorway until last 20 mins.

It's your trip I wouldn't fancy

Hence why I'm looking for a big diesel motorway cruiser... anyone got a 525 TDS Touring they want rid of? looking around 94/95 with 90k -ish on the clock.

Nope, still doesn't ring any bells!!!! You might as well be in Siberia.

Well... you know what they say... best thing to come out of Hull is the M62

I wondered why everyone looked startled the last time I took the car over that way... they obviously don't have them across there... should be fun then

And yes Martyn, I have checked AutoTrader, in fact have been doing so for the last 6 weeks... but I'd rather buy one off someone on here if anyone has one. I would get something newer, but I'll have stuck 100k miles on it in two years and it'll be worth jack S. At least if I only spend four or five grand, I won't lose too much.

Humberside?

oh yeah... they tried to change the name back in 1970 ish didn't they.... soon gave in and changed it back to East Yorkshire though

Moving to a little village near Howden, where are you Alan, and what do you drive? There is nothing listed on your profile.

I know you were looking at a 406 coupe last summer, did you ever get one? Great cars, I've had one (yellow naturally - to go with my shy and retiring personality) as a Co motor for the last three years and it goes back in 5 weeks - still think it looks fantastic

I’m in a small village just off the A63 between you and Hull.

Aerospace engineer? oooh that'll put you somewhere around South Cave, Elloughton, Brough-ish?

And yes Snorky - I have been on that very ferry. A big adventure for a young boy that was

As an update, we have now moved to a rented house in Whitley, just off the M62 on the A19. New house won't be ready for another 6-8 months... however, the A19, south of the M62.... oh yes, oh yes oh yes oh yes

If you know what I mean

I'll have to pop in and have a look at the car sometime, parents live in Elloughton so over there reasonably often, or if you're passing the A19 on the 62 give us a shout and stop by. The current house is less than 2 mins from the M62.

And you wonder why your wife gets pissed with you? It's nothing to do with you going out in the car... it's the bl**dy sheep man!

Which route are you taking to Wighill. If the weather clears up I'll go home and get the Griff. If it's still peeing down I'll probably go straight from work.

Due to the very very very wet weather, the fact that I have just shined the beast ( on reflection that sound rude)and other lame excuses from me, we wont be able to make it.

They're made of plastic, it won't rust.

Well, I had a good run over from East Yorkshire, tiny amount of spitting rain - but roof off for the trip back

Cave to Walkington I do all the time, so I'm very familiar with it.

Any drives organised then?

Keep your eye on the Yorks forum and also "Events/Meetings".

There is the Big Northern Gathering on 24 July, though this is more a social do than a full blown run out... though Pickering to Harrogate should be a good run... then one NOT to miss (which I have to unfortunately) is Dawn Raid II, which is currently looking at 1st August. THAT, is a run out and a half. early start, empty roads, 3 hours hooning!

No, you won't figure out where it is exactly on the oprn forum, for fairly obvious reasons. You'll see a guy called "nonnynimity" on the Dawn raid posts. Email him for more details.

It's now confirmed for a week on saturday. Which is a bit of a pain cos I can't go!

We do however have Big Northern Gathering on this weekend which is being held in tyhe grounds of a stately home near Helmsley, north of York.

There are a few threads about it in the events section.

OH

Especially as by then I should have my new toy

Which reminds me, bit of an arty pic you have there on your profile Mr Branton Into a bit of glamour photography on the side are we?

Seriously, I am free, I think, that Sunday, AND, if it is dawn and we are back fairly early, AND as I do plan to pick the car up the day before, hopefully Vicki will be in an understanding mood

Just a minor point - could you think of a slightly different name for it please, as we already have the Dawn Raid series organised by Nonny. How about Wolds Raid, or the "up at the crack of dawn run 1" lovely girl she was too

Hope you don't think I'm being arsey, not intended, but Nonny does put a lot of work into Dawn Raid and they are serious bits of motoring - tulip maps the works, 4 hours full on concentration - work that gearbox!

al

ps: the roads will be reasonably decent won't they? as the new one has even less ground clearance than the Griff - if they are likely to be a little rough in places, I'll bring the Griff.

Ta Chumley!

Stu - Have you thought of setting up a separate thread for the Duck's Fart Run? (I'd still keep it in Yorks forum though as opposed to main events).

A lot of people will have seen this East Yorks PH post for several weeks now and might not bother checking updates on it.

I am looking forward to it... except if it's p1ssing down! I'm in this for the open top driving, if I can't have the roof down, I'm afraid I tend to lose interest a bit. Having said that, I have been known on more than one occasion to have the roof off whilst all around me have wipers on

tell you else may be up for this, Willy Worm and his son Chris. They have a Chimaera and an Elise and live near Drax. I'll drop them a line.

The issue with open top cars for me is that the drag and noise build up massively to the point where everything gets sucked up and out of the cockpit,

Don't know about the new one yet, but in the Griff never seemed to have any trouble up to *55, though I think I slowed down because the baseball cap was in danger of letting go - normal motorway speeds, never had a problem, and the 348 is reputed to be fairly good for noise levels with the roof down.
