Hey lads

I know it's a bit late but I noticed there hasn't been a post up about this:

The proposal to reduce the standard 30mph limit to 20mph on a national level has been up, and has been plastered across many road safety and environmental groups, so no doubt the response so far may be very representative of those groups.

I think it's fairly important that if you have an opinion on this proposal that you fill out the survey provided, it doesn't take long.

Yup, same thing happened with the air rifle consultation, that got a 70+% opposition response but was passed regardless, as much as it is a green proposal, if this gets voted through by the majority party it will be the last nail in the coffin that prevents me from voting for aforementioned majority party again.

This almost seems like a targeted consultation, as I mentioned in my op (which I tried to portray a neutral attitude in) it seems that maximum effort has gone into distributing it amongst various road safety and environmental pages, and minimal effort to show it anywhere else.

In fact the only reason I heard about it is because a friend I have who is an avid cyclist and general retard shared it on Facebook, imploring people to support it. Which to me says that it really needs to be shared where the people who will be affected most by its detrimental effect (motorists and business owners) will see it, PH to me seemed to be the perfect place for that target demographic.

Anywho, my opinion is that the environmental and safety aspects of it are being overplayed by cherry picked statistics, the cost to business and local authorities will be high, and finally it will be of detriment to ordinary (safe) motorists who tend to adhere to a perceived safe speed. I also cited several studies into speed limits and perceived safe speeds in my response. Essentially stating that, unless millions are spent on changing road designs everywhere with calming measures, all the limit will do is criminalise experienced motorists.

Not to mention the planned emissions tax coming in Glasgow and Edinburgh 'soon'. It will be a double whammy hit to motorists, particularly those who are less well off, at least some people are trying to fight the plans in London (https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/stop-toxic-taxes/), if they are successful that may set precidence here.

I think thats just the equalities tat that they need to tack on to everything nowadays. I just filled it in as not applicable/irrelevant.
