We're off to Inverness for a few days over the New Year - weather/roads permitting, we were thinking of heading North and/or West(ish) for the day to get out to one of the coastal areas.

Firstly is there anything that's a must do while we're in & around the city, and what would be the best routes out to get to the famous unspoilt empty beaches.

Many thanks in advance.

If you haven't seen them before then the Red Kite feeding at Tollie is worth a visit. Road up is not sports car friendly as it's quite potholed.
Ta.

I'll be in the fastest car of all. Potholes will not be an issue.

Thanks again guys - I'd Love Fort George, the missus less so probably but I'll stick it on the table with the other great ideas, you never know.

Back from Inverness and had a very nice time - thanks all for your recommendations.

We were spoilt with the weather - clear skies for pretty much all of it.

We did eat at the Mustard Seed, nice. Drove over the Bealach na Bà to Applecross in stunning weather, the lochs & sea were like millponds.

Drove down the top half of Loch Ness to the visitors centre.

Had a surprisingly nice meal at Number 27, having had a glass of wine at a Tapas place just before. Tortilla something...

Had a good Hogmanay at the Northern Meeting Park watching some good Gaelic music.

Met up with an old Army mucker who I hadn't seen for over 25 years - was superb - met in Elgin at a pub called the Droughty Cobbler.

Went to watch the dolphins at Chanonry Point but they had other ideas. Really wanted to go to Fort George but with the weather good we couldn't miss the opportunity to head to Applecross and it was closed on the only day we had free so something had to give.

Overall a good trip - we both agreed that everyone was especially welcoming and helpful.

Thanks again.
