Morning all
My wedge is being a git : official rage
Got it out from winter lay up and clutch slave has dumped all its fluid on the garage floor - fixed it
First run out and servo goes - replaced it
Exhaust is blowing - fixed it
Running rough after servo replaced - fixed it
MOT due so I get up early to take it down- my friendly mot station don’t take bookings , first come first served , so if you’re not early you might be there a couple of hours , and ....
1. Car running rough on start up, same as before hunting really bad
2. Clutch doesn’t feel 100% so possibly leaking again/still more investigation required
3. Decide to press on regardless,100 yards up the road and somethings wrong- nsr tyre is almost flat
Disgusted I return the car to the garage and walk away until my frustration subsides furious
By the time I turn round and get to the garage the cars now running well so possibly cts ??

It’s 7 years almost to the day since I bought the wedge and recently I’ve been thinking of changing it for something else - not sure what but something that’ll offer a completely different driving experience
I have been resisting that urge as I know I’ll really miss the wedge but I’m using it less and less every year and having to fix the bloody thing every time I want to go out in it is helping to make my mind up.
One more bloody issue and it’ll be making an appearance in the classifieds byebye
Rant over
Ron

Don't get shut of it. This is all down to your way of thinking, each day before you go to sleep say to yourself "a car is for fixing not for driving" and repeat those words until you doze off
Unfortunately Penny
My enjoyment of the wedge is from the driving of it - hearing that fabulous noise of the V8 growling and popping and crackling on the overrun - not getting grease under my fingernails and looking at it up on ramps frown

Morning all
After calming down somewhat I’ve now fixed the wedge
Running issues appear to be an issue with the CTS (aren’t they always ?) still a bit hunting on startup and it’s stalled on me a couple of times but I think that the idle screw on the plenum needs an adjustment
2 new tyres on the rear - the flat one had a nail through the sidewall so needed replacing and I did the other rear one as well as I’m not keen on mismatched tyres in the same axle - the old good one is going as my spare as that was rather ropey. It’s also got rid of a small vibration at about 70mph so a small bonus
Clutch is a mystery
Thought it would be the slave cylinder which was leaking and I repaired but on stripdown it was completely dry
I was going to replace it entirely but the new one I got doesn’t fit - identical to the old one but the pipe union thread is smaller on the new one - I’m guessing the lt77 box was used in a variety of cars and might be different in each application - a link to the right slave would be good if anyone has one
Old one put back on and refilled & bled - no signs of leakage on the driveway so fingers crossed
Currently sitting outside the MOT station waiting for my turn .....
still not decided if it’s staying or not - as I said had very little use last year and I’ve a hankering for a different driving experience but I’m also torn as I know I’ll miss the wedge terribly if I do sell it. scratchchin

MOT passed smile and a quick adjustment of the idle screw and order is restored
Had a good drive back from the mot station and feeling good about the car
Still undecided as to weather to sell or not though
My biggest problem is I’m not sure what could replace it to be honest - It would have to be a 2 seat drop top of some description but everything at around similar money falls short in some way - probably goes to show how undervalued the wedges are ...

Well the wedge continues to taunt me
Feel like this at the moment
Quick run out this morning car going well - filled up with Tesco momentum , my car seems to love it , and became aware that the handling is “off” particularly when turning left and got an occasional knocking
An investigation finds that the shock on the offside isn’t attached to the lower wishbone at all - both studs holding it on are broken - one looks historic sheared off by over tightening no doubt the other is recent - I’m guessing it couldn’t take the stress of the load being put through it on its own and has partially snapped and sheared the threads
Both studs have been drilled out and replaced with M8 bolts washers and nuts
I’m getting to the end of my tether with it TBH - one more issue and I’ll be trading it in for something more modern that won’t drop bits on the floor every time I take it out ...
Mine you the noise it makes on 99RON fuel is glorious biggrin

All good now
Went on a major fettling exercise fixing all the stuff that I’ve been meaning to sort for a while
Car is now better than at anytime during my ownership with everything working well
Still undecided as to selling up
After 7 years I Feel it’s time for a change and personal circumstances are pushing me that way too ( lack of use, lack of time, our recently purchased wreck of a property in Ireland needing even more money thrown at it frown ) would all say sell, but at the moment I just can’t bear to part with it. Might keep it just one more year ..... biggrin
