Hello guys,

Now that my 350I injection problems are solved, thanks to the help of members of this forum https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... now it's the gearbox who's playing with my nerves…

During a local touristic rally this morning, 2nd and 4th speed nearly refused to engage after a 2 minutes stop.

"Nearly" because they can be engage, but at the price of an horrible noise : thanks to the torque of this fantastic car, I went back home avoiding 2nd and 4th, but it's not funny at all.

No problem at all with reverse, first, third or fifth, so it's not a clutch problem, so what could be wrong now ?

The gearbox extension bushes seems to be good, imho.

I sincerely hope it's not a gearbox out problem : once they are engaged, each speed is working fine (even 2nd and 4th !), and no nasty noise from the gearbox (not even a failing bearing noise).

Any idea ?

Thanks for your reply and wishes mate !

How can I identify a LT77 gearbox ?

If I'm not wrong, my 350I has the same model of gearbox as my ex TR8 (factory, not a TR7 V8) or TR7, but I don't know if they are LT77 or not, sorry.

Hello Adam, how are you ?

I sincerely hope you are right : I can't get access to this car before later in the week, then I'll check this, thanks.

I hope you are right, these bushes are far simplier to replace than a gearbox rebuilt.

Hello guys, it took a couple of month before I could work on this TVR, but it didn't took me a long time to do the job : you were right, the bushes were gone, as was the small "cup" at the bottom of the gear lever.

Both replaced/repaired, problem solved !

Many thanks for your help,

Cheers,

Chris
