I have had a look on here, and a mild look at the interweb.

My RH rocker cover flame trap was a tired-looking on the outer of the casing.
I took it off for a bit of a clean, and was surprised or not to see the internal gauze is just bunged in it as a push-fit, of what looks like an old scouring pad.
This is not retained in any way leaving bits of it to potentially fall off into the engine by way of the rocker cover.

This is very old hat stuff from back in the day. There are better solutions for filtration nowadays.
I was thinking of taking one of these or a similar type of thing and using the filter section inside the existing can. Has anyone done this or similar, as the potential for metal shards from the scouring pad in the engine is not a good prospect?
Having said that it has likely been like for 30 odd years unless changed or engine rebuilt? I assume new ones are of the same design?
