Rev Counter Problem
Discussion
Hi - managed to do some checks
Earth connection back of rev counter fine, continuity to earth
+ve feed fine
Continuity in the white / slate wire from counter to coil. You mentioned this wire may be earthing out. Yes there is continuity to earth ,however there is also continuity to earth on the -ve pole on the coil to where it is attached
Even with the wire to the coil completely removed from the back of the rev counter as soon as you switch on ignition the dial moves full deflection to 7000rpm - any further thoughts?

I assume access is from the front?
I did remove the bezel to paint it some time back - not the easiest of things to get off
A company called Just Campers have them in stock - seem to be the cheapest though as they mainly deal with early VW campers their fitting instruction is for the feed to connected to the +ve on the coil as I assume they will be positive earth. If a car is -ve earth is it merely just connecting the feed to the -ve coil terminal?

Decided to take the easier option
Found a company JDO instruments in West Yorkshire who will repair.
Spoke to Steve there and with symptoms said undoubtedly the chip had gone, so off to them for repair. Turn around time is 3 days
Looked at getting an new on but many now have LED back lighting as standard plus a 5 pin plug on the back, so therefore thought repair of the original to be perhaps the best option.
Thanks for all your advice
