Just a thought - British summer time comes to an end on Sunday the 31st October (do we gain an hour?) and I thought it would be perhaps a last realistic (as the weather worsens) chance of getting all the toys out for a proper drive together.

Open to ideas and an indication of interest, but my suggestion to get the ball rolling would perhaps be a drive to the Imperial war museum at Duxford - good place to visit for the planes with a decent carpark and cafe etc. We could have two meeting points, one for those in the east of the region (perhaps the Flying Fortress at Bury St Edmunds or the Stowmarket Tescos for those that know it) and another to the west somewhere around Huntingdon. Then perhaps the two groups could join together somewhere close to the A14/M11 interchange for a combined blast down to Duxford - a sort of EA PHer finale for the year

Could even pencil in the 31st and following Sunday to get a better chance of a dry day!

Edited to add Duxford info:

Starting 31st October (first day of winter hours) opening times 10am - 4pm
Adults £10 ea (concessions for children/oaps) or groups of 20+ @ £8 ea

www.iwm.org.uk for more info

What do you reckon?

Sounds like a good excuse for a blast - do you want a head start?

shouldn`t need it this time Neil, as I reckon you`ll only have 3rd gear by then!

Got your DVD but the Chims not coming out today due to the "lovely" weather, I`ll get it over to you over the weekend though

I'm up for an end of term hoon, but don't really want to pay money to hang around aircraft, as I get paid to do it for a living.....

I completely understand Nick - Duxford is the first suggestion - and this is a PHer democracy - so you can look after the cars in the carpark and we`ll throw you a hot cocoa over the fence!!

Seriously though, open to suggestions - needs to be relatively central for our region. Highest vote for destination wins the day

I want some excitement! But we looked at this for the Jag. Club recently - as Duxford have special day on 10th Oct - but I am reliably informed that they won't do anything special on the parking at all and you are just lumped in with everyone else.

Hi 350Girl!!

Assuming Duxford gets the overall votes, I don`t think there will be any problem with parking as it is a big area - I`m confident we will all be able to park together - famous last words!!

We gave them a Jaguar fighter aircraft (about £15 million worth) and fully prepared reconnaissance pod (about £2 million) for free, and all we managed to scrounge off of them was 1 (yes ONE) family ticket......

so I don't think we'll get any sort of deal from them

So this is your choice so far Nick

1. £15m for a ticket into Duxford
2. Take the low road with Barcardi to Scotland
3. Get soot in your eyes at the Colne Valley Railway

If you want to have some photo's taken in front of some planes what about North Weald (I know it's Essex, but....) to see the aircraft you need to pre-book for permission which if you ask nicely they might also be able to open the doors for photo shoot's infront of a B25 Mitchell or maybe a Hawker Sea Fury. Since the Summer is over most will be tucked up for the winter.

Can't hurt to ask.

Aces High Flying Museum (Tel: 01992 522949). open 7 days a week too.

Thanks for that FWD. You posted this while I was doing my smart a*se reply to Nick, worth a call as you say - and if we go down that far, I suppose we could pass Castle TVR near Stansted (except they`ll be closed on a Sunday)

Duxford seems to be the favoured destination at present but keep em coming

How about we all stay tucked up at home cos the weather is gonna be poo anyway!!!!

I know, all pile round my gaff for a BBQ then a blast on the runway

The weather has been booked for sun with light cloud and perhaps an odd light shower - I don`t want the wish to be too un-realistic!

If it`s any worse than that, it won`t happen that date ok

Would love to come along, but I think we are travelling back from the Mother-in-Laws. Maybe if it is the following week?

Seems like the perfect excuse for leaving the Mother-in-Laws early to me!! The 31st is the main date but I`m advising to try and keep the following Sunday (7th Nov) free just incase because the weather is going to be more doubtful by then I`m sure

We drove through Huntingdon a couple of days ago and travelled down the A14. I did note Shell services about a mile or so after Hemingford Grey and thought that might make a good spot. I know the Bridge Hotel just off the ring road, is your suggestion anywhere near there?

Nearer the time I will put up my suggested meeting points and some times

Ian,
About 100 meters before the Bridge Hotel on the Left.

Haven`t noticed the car park but I guess you mean near the river. There will be others coming from that way so we will have to decide which is easier to find for the Lincs/Norfolkers.
