Finally got this car finished, with the help of Mark walklett and ebbs racing

this car was made by DARE in 90s, and sold as rolling body/chassis to previous owner.
it was also the car used for making the prototype roof (none of which were ever sold though)

i bought the car with almost all parts necessary to complete. Needed new wheels and driveshafts, brakes, gearbox rebuild, ARBs

it has a cosworth duratec 2.3 (260hp on RR) and 5 speed ssg gearbox with salisbury type LSD

weight is approx 585kg with roof

i think it looks great with the roof, gives it a more complete look. the windscreen is bespoke to this car.
legroom is ok for me at 6 feet tall, similar to LWB G4. it has pendant pedals which help abit too

Thanks, the colour was chosen by previous owner

The roof was only recently completed

I'm not a fan of the colour... But what a thing. Very jealous. It'll go well too with that PTW.

I'd love a G16 but at 6' 5"... rofl
It has removable targa panels in the roof smile

It is certainly a lovely looking machine, congratulations. And so light weight, it makes my G40R look like a bit of a tank!

Is it intended (or even possible) to make it road legal, or will it be purely for track/race purposes?

What is the status with Dare these days? Are they still in operation and at what level?
yes i was surprised at the weight. Dare still build g4/12/16 for historic racing
mine will be mostly used on trackdays

585kg ... 1/3 the mass of a modern hot hatch. In fact I see it is less than load capacity of a Golf. So if you didn't want to drive it to the track, you don't need a trailer, you just fold the back seats down in the Golf and put the G16 in the boot. That must go like a missile.
Yes they are potent and well balanced. In period they should have won much more, but now g16s seem to dominate the hscc guards trophy with many overall wins against chevrons etc

Heres some more pics
The wheels are 10inch wide rears by image, could have gone 13inch like period but tyres would be impossible

Still need to get side windows made and possibly perspex headlight covers

Hi, I rebuilt my second G15 in New Zealand and have tried to follow what DARE have been doing. I am asking if you can tell me whether DARE is still in operation and if so are they still building cars?
I noted somewhere that they had added the G16 model to the Dare G12 and G4 range. Is that so and are they still on sale and is Mark the only Walklett now in the company, presumably with some other staff?
Where the TG & DZ the only purely Dare origin cars?
Thank you
Richard
Dare is still Ivor walklett and his son. they mostly now do continuation race cars for historic racing. mostly G4R
they can make g12 and g16 and can service most ginettas etc
the TG and DZ were the only ones i think, but also ofcourse the slightly redesigned g4 and g12 for japanese market

Both nice colours but the silver blue really shows the lines well and i feel a but more period correct..
The burgundy/gold was chosen as a nod to the para regiment colours of Trevors walklett

Hi

Yes all on the road now, drove it to Goodwood revival

It really does feel like a proper race car. The handling is ridiculous but its pretty noisy with the straight cut gears

Weighs under 600kg and the cosworth makes 255hp

Yes the 356 puts it into perspective

Its 38-39 inches to the roof, but headroom for me at 6feet tall is still ok

G16 all were racers in late 60s. Maybe 10-15 built

But dare made around 3 continuation cars too (this being one of them) , another is in Japan, and there was a pale blue one to europe

Its about as spacious inside as a gdt70.
