I've got a 2.2d 2008 S Max with the DVD / touch screen sat nav.

The heater has developed a fault - the fan blows hard for 2 seconds when you turn on the car, but fails to work at all after that. The heater generates heat, but there's no fan. Over Christmas it fixed itself for a couple of days (i.e the fan worked as normal) but a few days later it stopped working again.

I thought it was the resistor pack but Ford have confirmed that as I've got the touch screen unit the resistor pack isn't a separate part but it's in the heater / fan motor unit itself.

An excellent / trusted independent garage tried to get to the heater but after a call with Ford declared that the whole dash will need to come out to get to it. They've suggested I get confirmation that it's the heater motor or the touchscreen / control panel that's at fault before pulling the dash out.

So, does anyone have any experience of this fault or is able to recommend:

1) A good Ford garage that will do a proper job of diagnosing the fault rather than just randomly replacing items until they solve the problem
2) A good auto electrician who operates within a reasonable distance of west London that can test without needing to get to the heater motor (if that's posible)

Hi

In the end it went into an independent Ford garage who made a bit of a mess of it but it was at least £400 - 500 in parts and labour.

My attempts to use an auto-electrician weren't successful - possibly got the wrong person involved though.

It's not been the same since really....but I don't want to throw another £500 at it to make it marginally better (fan speed is too low on the slower settings for example)

That's great to hear.

I can't remember what was fixed on mine (the actual details) but this is a useful update for others
