Has anyone got a ford with the Powershift dual clutch box ? Or had experiences with them?

The old man's going to loose a couple of toes and part of his heel due to a medical condition, so his manual focus is going in favour of auto/dsg equipped cars,

He likes his Ford's and has seen a my64 focus with the Powershift box, I've not really seen much about them and assumed they were just autos until I did a bit more digging, all I know is it's a dual clutch they are made by getrag and that's about it, it's labelled as a semi auto, so is it like the VAG dsg units that have flappy paddles?

if anyone's driven/owned one I'd like to hear your opinions please and general impressions of driving it ease of use etc, I'll be joining a ford forum to get more clued up on it but thought I'd ask here 1st

Thanks

Cheers chaps,

I did wonder how long they had been around as typing powershift issues into Google doesnt return much, so at least they've had a few years to iron out any issues,
I'll be doing the test drive as he currently has one of those air boot contraptions on,

Interesting to know about the slight delay on initial acceleration, not sure how my mum will get on with it, they are both in their early 70's but I told her it will probably be alot better than the old school autos,

I'm not sure if the car were looking at has paddles or not, it's only got 20k on the clock so not expecting any major issues, I've not driven a modern auto or dsg the last auto I set foot in was an e class merc,

Are there any specific things that I should listen for or be checking ?

Thanks for the heads up, are they a noisy unit in general or when cold ?

The garage in question is an independent & deals with alot of ex fleet stuff, my dad's bought his last 3 cars from them and been using them for 10+ years for servicing so hopefully he'll not have his pants pulled down

As not having seen it in the flesh the 5spd may be a typo ? I'll let the rest of you boss figure out what box it is : )

Haha shoes how much attention I actually paid to the ad,
Anyway the folks got a taxi up to collect thiers from a service & have a look at it today managed to have poke around then were told a telephone deposit had been taken, so back to the drawing board,

Couple of tsfi Fabias cropped up in the right configuration so that's the weekends activities sorted,

Thanks for all the info !

Won't the Fabias have the dry clutch version, barge and pole personally. Which is a shame as the Fabia is a great car.
I take it this is bad ?
I'll make him aware of it they are my62&63 plate cars he's seen, both at main dealers

While we're on about different cars, any alternatives or ones that anyone would recommend (not French though)

Budget of up to 10k I guess

Funnily enough I've just thought about a 1 series, would need to be a 5 door though,

Just called him about it and his only reservation was 'it's rwd no good in the snow' told him to go buy a set of winters 😂

If the telephone deal for the focus falls though he has 1st refusal, they did say they should be getting another one in a few weeks, but i think we'll go have a look at a few 1 series in the mean time see if he likes them and is willing to part with a bit more cash,

I've never been in a 1 series what's the rear seat space like ? As they still ferry his mum (94yo) around a couple of times a week

Argh ! Too much conflicting info, some bad some good, how am I going to know which box has a wet clutch, the ford oc is a bit quiet I've asked questions there and am still awaiting replies,
I take it the gearbox code will be on the vin plate ? I'll have a Google of the code once I get to view them,

There's another two fairly local to us so the next plan is to try and drive them all back to back and compare, against the one that he's already seen.

He's decided against anything rwd as he's worried about my mum launching it backwards through a hedge on wet roads, so looks like we're back to a ford,

My dad did buy the car in the end but sadly his condition was hiding an underlying cancer and he passed last September, but he really liked the car and said the gearbox was easy enough to live with, as mentioned above there was a little hesitation when pulling out and waiting for it to sort its self out, and the occasional over rev when putting you foot down when not in sport mode,

My mum has taken on the ownership and she loves it, it's one less thing for her to worry about as she's not the most confident of driver, she only does around 4-5k year and it's due a service soon so if it throws up anything I'll report back
