Ka hot air from vents, with aircon on or off

When your air-con needs re-gassing you will know when it blows hot on a cold setting.
Cost about £85+VAT

Thanks for your help, the bit that confused me was that the heater blows hot, when aircon turned off, when dial is at coldest setting. Its very hot air, a lot warmer than the outside temp. I thought that with aircon off it would just act as normal heater?, but I guess there's more too it than that. Re-gassing sounds a good place to start..

Made a few calls, local Kwik fit charge £30 for re-gas, if it dosn't help its free! Sounds good to me.

The fact that this problem is happening when the air con is off suggests that its the heater mixing valve thats died.
This is a common prob on the Ka/Fiesta/Puma. Basically, the solenoid switch that mixes the hot and cold water depending on what heat setting you have turned the dial to eventually dies and gets stuck open or closed. So you either get all cold air (like I did in the middle of winter...lovely...) or all hot air.
The valve is about £30 from Ford (though I have heard of people getting them from the scrappy for a few quid) and sits on the bulkhead between the engine and passenger cabin. I managed to change my own, although it helps if you have some decent tools (unlike me) and don't mind scuffing your knuckles lots.
My 1st question on Pistonheads & great advice, thanks!
1 heater mixing valve / 1 hour / backache & skinned knuckles & the aircon/heating works again!.
