Replacement Engine and VIN Plate

Hi guys, what does one do to update the engine number on the VIN plate if the car has a replacement engine?

Can blank spares be sourced and scribed? Or just he original sanded and rescribed?

Surely a few TVR's out there not running the engine if left the factory with?

Is it easily visibile from any particular angle?
