Roof colour change

Anyone know if you can permanently dye the roof material from blue to black?
I've bought a roof that's already split and the rubbers would need redoing if I recover it.

I've just ordered the dye/reviver but Is the cleaner needed? There's nothing visible to clean off.
The roof I've got has a1mm rubber seal either side with two metal catches and looks to be a proper job....
I'm hoping the catches aren't needed as im quite tall and headroom/being brained is an issue...
