So ordered a nice matching set of rainsport 3s online through tyre leader on saturday.... all in stock online. Got to monday morning and found an email saying they have cancelled the fronts due to having no stock. I asked them to cancel the rears as I need them all by this saturday before i drive to spain. They say it cannot be cancelled as they are in transit (from germany no less), and i shall have to refuse delivery (and pay £25) or return myself at my own cost. Due to this i may as well accept them and source the fronts elsewhere.

long story short..... can i put different tyre brands/types on the front as to the rear or will the grip characteristics mess with the driving?

Many of us (me included) have to use V rated tyres on the front with Z rated (more commonly now W rated) tyres on the rear if you still use the 15" / 16" combination. These will undoubtedly have slightly different compounds but I at least had the same make front and back.

All tyres are now sold with grip performance, wear and road loudness ratings so at least try to make them similar, the first one especially! Who produces the ratings I don't know but you have to hope they're approximate. whistle
Are there many people that have changed to 16"/16" combo? Realised i should stress that this is on a 93 Chimaera. What is the benefit of doing this? Hopefully i will be able to get some similar to the rears soon.
