Stick on front Number Plate?

Am consdidering removing the front no.plate on my 98 Chimaera 500 and replacing it with a "stick on the bonnet type"
a)to aid cooling (although as yet have had no overheating issues)
b)i think it might look good in a sort of classic British Sports Car way!?!?

Question is,are stick on front plates still legal?
Also who supplies them these days?

Has anybody on here got stick on front plates on their Chimaera ? more to the point, any pictures ?
Remember seeing pic of 4.3 Chim (on one of the Rover V8
tuners web-site - cant remember which one!)which looked quite purposefull

Have found a supplier and ordered one "just to see"
Anybody know what sort of reaction the local constabulary will have ?
Its not worth points on my licence is it ?
Although police round here usually have more important matters to deal with so I might go unnoticed
