TR6 Carburetor issue

Wondering if anyone can help?

My brother has a 1974 TR6 Californian import that he has owned for 20 years and is having a full restoration.

The original carburetors are Peerburgs, I think, and the front one is not firing properly.
Is it likely he would be able to get some second hand replacements and if so where from or what would anybody recommend in terms of a solution.

They will be Stromberg 175s I think. You won't want secondhand replacements, they can be quite cheaply fixed with service kits. Try Revington TR or someone like that. They're pretty straightforward to look after.

I'm surprised my brother even knows where the engine is so I will take your knowledge over his any day.

I have just called him and he says he has heard of that name Revington via the TR Action magazine and will follow it up with a phone call.

The work has been carried out by our cousin who has a car service center which normally consists of more modern stuff but felt confident to take it on.

The car now looks superb inside and out after a full body off restoration but this carburetor issue had them stumped.

So it sounds like the TR owners are the same as TVR owners.. Always a difference of opinion

Well my brother has just turned up at my house in his working TR6. It had been sat in a garage for around 20yrs and about 6 months ago decided it was time to get her back on the road.

The carburetor issue held it back a few weeks longer,but he had the original refurbished at a place in Kidderminster for now and will look at replacing if he has any future problems.

He is not looking for performance,just hopefully something reliable,well as reliable as these cars can be

I have advised him that he should get himself a login name for PH as I'm sure it may need your experienced opinions in the future. Also trying to encourage him on a few car meeting that i go along to such a Shelsley Walsh when the start up again next year to listen to enthusiasts advice.

Hi Mads,John...

Looking very nice Mads... My brother has not spent much money under the bonnet and looks nothing like your beauty.

As you can imagine the price of getting it refurbished escalated and was getting a bit out of hand so his decision in the engine bay was just to get it up and running and gradually start replacing things over a period of time.

We went out for a drive yesterday and it all sounded pretty good,nowhere near the performance I have in my Chimaera but it's not all about performance..Right? What I was surprised at is how narrow they are,not much room between driver and passenger unlike mine where you have the massive center arm rest divide to keep you apart.

He is a member of the TR club and receives the magazine which he passes on to me to have a browse,strange he doesn't seem too interested in my Sprint magazines full of TVR porn .

I'm pretty sure he will join up on here,doesn't seem right me talking to others about his new baby,well not new he has had about 20 years,but yesterday when I saw it on the drive it looks like new.
