TR6 Tyres - Advice Please
Discussion
Morning all,
I've done a search but the last thread on this was nearly 10 years ago and for a different size.
My TR6 sailed through it's MOT (TÜV) yesterday but did have one rather strong advisory, seeing as the tyres are 25 years old it was hardly surprising
It's a US spec. car so running on 185HR15.
The only real contender in that size over here in Germany is the Vredestein Sprint Classic, but at 250€ per corner it's not cheap.
Any other recommendations of tyre or places to buy in the UK, I can easily get them brought over.

Those black circles ones are van tyres and have a high load rating, I would think the ride would be adversely affected with those.
How about these?:

Or these which actually mention US spec TR6 :

Those Blockley's look okay, never heard of them though and they're only slightly less than the Vredestein, which I've now found at 200€ per corner. How about these?:

Bloody hell, these are cheap and appear to be car tyres.

I know this will probably be frowned upon, but I canceled the Vredesteins and ordered some ying yang ditch finders, they're on now and are really good.
The way I look at it is that the tyres I've been running were 25 years old so not exactly 'safe' anyway, and I only take the TR6 out for weekend jaunts and these don't involve going mad and drifting around the local roads. I also never go out in the wet.
Radar Dimax Classic 185/80/15. They're basically a copy of the original tyres and at 60€ per corner cheap as chips. They have a nice 'classic' branding on the sidewall and first impressions are that they are perfectly good for a classic car.
I'm bloody glad I had them all changed as when the guy did it he found that the front right didn't have an inner tube, all the others did!

Interested in how you get on with these, please post a pic when they're on the TR
They're on and look spot on I'll take a picture at the weekend unless it rains.Another way of looking at it is if they were a normal size they'd be the same price per corner as a Kuhmo or a Continental, and I'm not paying four times more for a name just because they're an oddball size.
That's a lovely looking TR6, is it black? Never seen one in black before.
Looks like you have original seats in, which is refreshing, the Americans seem to be obsessed with fitting MX-5 seats to their cars, I find that a bit weird. Surely half the fun of a classic car is enjoying the idiosyncrasies of them, like the reassuring feeling of the headrest sitting in the middle of your back?

I have MX5 seats in mine purely for comfort the original seats play havoc with my back. I do think that the Mk2 seats look better then original in the car, give me comfort over originality anytimeR TOY said:
Only just seen your latest post .
I would suggest giving the Dimax some time to bed in . All that nasty tread can play havoc with a light cars handling, I assume the tracking has been checked ?
As you say the tyres look great on a classic but you need to be happy with the handling.
The tracking was done as I had to have the tyres and the 'steering linkage rubber things'? changed for the MOT.I would suggest giving the Dimax some time to bed in . All that nasty tread can play havoc with a light cars handling, I assume the tracking has been checked ?

After driving it for the first time on the new tyres they did feel a bit twitchy, I dropped the pressures all round from 2.4 to 2.2 and they now feel fine. Very happy with them (until I fly backwards into a ditch, as you said).
