Creaking brakes

When I depress the brake pedal in my *coughpeugeot306cough* I'm getting a pretty loud creaking sound from the front of the car, and the pedal feels rather rough to depress. 
I've taken it into the dealer and they were uncertain as to the reason, but suggested it was a result of the new pad and disc combination...although I doubt that's the reason as it was doing the very same before I had new pads fitted.
Other than the feel of the pedal and the creaking noise, there's no change - they feel just as powerful as before it started.
Any ideas, chaps?
