Peugeot 306 Rear beam rebuild. Anyone here done one?
Discussion
Thanks for the suggestions
I wish it was as simple as buying an exchange beam, the cost of delivery and return of the old beam make it a no goer, I have left the UK
Hopefully I will manage to remove the bearings with a homemade puller or bash them out from the other end
Anyway, I have access to good quality shafts, bearings and seals, what is confusing me is the setting of a clearance between the arms and the seals that fit in each end of the beam, I cant find a Peugeot setting anywhere, I can find information in forums....One forum/poster suggests 0.05mm clearance and another forum/poster suggests no clearance
Should anyone have a factory setting it will be of much help
Obviously all the work depends on the beam being reusable

Where do you live? No axle guys near you?
As for the radius arm to grease seal clearance. At the other end of the torsion bar there is an adjusting screw, like a tappet screw, just turn it until the seal makes contact, not too tight.Observe the seal and you will get the idea,it's not criticle. Make sure there is plenty of grease everywhere, just pack loads in.
Greece. I rather do the job myself and know it's right (hopefully)As for the radius arm to grease seal clearance. Lovely, that's what I needed and I now fully understand where the adjustment is made
Thank you
The ARB plates are being a proper pain, I was hoping to get it all stripped down this afternoon

Where are you? If there's any reasonable number of middle-aged PSA stuff there, there'll be somebody rebuilding beams...Thanks for your time

Does anyone know how the parts that some people call cups that are shown at the top of this image come out of the beam?
Thank you in advance
I`ve never replaced those,by the look of your image they are threaded ?Thank you in advance
I`ve always left them alone, never found the need to replace them.
Yes I now know they are threaded, I managed to undo them with a steel through handle hex headed screwdriver
I needed them out to clean the splines up
There are lots of beam bits floating about the place at present, please look out for my next problem, your knowledge is priceless

Ha Ha,my knowledge of old Peugeot`s is getting as rusty as your axle. I retired from my own Peugeot business ten years ago,and the last time I overhauled a rear axle was about fifteen years ago !!
Thank you for this very good image, you have saved me from getting under my car to check the layoutThe old shafts were pressed out and the new shafts were pressed in today, rollers next
Ok, so what if you are a touch rusty, If I'm stuck will you kindly lubricate your memory for me
